We had the good fortune of connecting with Rayanna Enriquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rayanna, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always loved drawing. I realized it made the most sense for me to pursue the Arts in some way. It makes me feel very full

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Growing up in Southern California, there’s inspiration everywhere. I’d like to contribute to and inspire the Chicano community in a way that feels relevant to my generation. Tattooing in 2024 is a lot different than when I was introduced to it. There’s so many exciting ways a tattoo artist can be, we aren’t restricted to specific styles anymore. I’m grateful to still be at the same shop I started apprenticing at. It definitely wasn’t easy but I couldn’t imagine doing it anywhere else. I like to keep an open mind and try to soak in as much good advice I can get. I’m prepared to be in this industry for the rest of my life. There’s always something new to learn, which is part of what makes it so exciting !

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I actually get this question a lot from clients who are from out of town, and it stumps me every time!
There’s so many beautiful places to visit in LA. Point Fermin park and the Korean friendship bell in San Pedro, and Hilltop park in Signal Hill are all great view spots. Shoreline Village is also really pretty at night. As far as food goes, there’s taco spots on every corner, the busiest ones are usually the best.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I feel very lucky to have such supportive people in my life. I’d have to credit my mom, everyone at my shop Calavera Studios, my mentor Adrian, family and friends who have all been so encouraging and helpful.
