Meet Raye Montgomery | Bath and body shop

We had the good fortune of connecting with Raye Montgomery and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raye, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always had problems with my skin, eczema and dry patches are the death of me and every time I would ask my doctor for steroid free lotions they were always so thick and sticky. Eventually I had enough of the thick sticky second skin I was wearing every day and decided to make my own lotion that was more natural and still got the job done …. Without being a sticky mess. The candle addition to my buisness came later as a suggestion by a friend. Now I have perfected both and refer to myself as a more natural and wholistic bath and body works.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create organic bath and body products that are organic and non – toxic.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely suggest the aquarium of the pacific. I’ve always loved the ocean and practically grew up in that aquarium. There are so many interactive activities and you’ll learn so much while you’re there. Later take a trip to 2nd st in Long Beach and eat dinner at Saint & Second. Their crab cakes are my favorite.
I would also suggest taking a trip to Huntington Beach and checking out pacific city! It’s a great outdoor mall and has a view of the ocean. My favorite restaurant Olas is in there. Olas is a modern Mexican restaurant and also has an AMAZING view. I highly recommend going at sunset.
Last but not least I would recommend cruising down to San Diego and visiting Mission Beach, and visit their amusement park that’s practically on the beach. Once upon a time ago I worked at the surf shop in that park (Sun Diego Boardshops). After some fun in the sun, head over to Cheba hut for a toasted sub that is on a higher level, they are out of this world.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family, has supported me throughout my buisness journey. My cousin actually is the one who gave me the idea of starting my own buisness. One Christmas about 8 years ago I had no money … like absolutely no money, and I didn’t want to be the only one not giving gifts out, so I made my whole fam body scrubs (the same ones I made for myself for my complicated skin) and they LOVED them. My cousin Kassondra even asked where I had purchased them from because she wanted more. That’s when Sugar Sea Organics was born.
