We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process in starting my own business was my love for horror and anything Halloween as well as my passion for fitness. I loved wearing my horror t-shirts when I would go to the gym. Then quarantine happened during my last semester of my Psychology degree, all gyms closed, and I begin doing at home workouts and even hosting fitness classes with my college club Hermanas Unidas, Inc. I had searched for brands that would combine my love of fitness and horror and realized there was none that would market as spooky fitness all year round. So, I decided to make one. I I began researching what would entail in creating my own clothing line. I want people of the spooky, horror and unusual like me to feel comfortable stepping into the fitness world feeling seen and before I knew it, we had our own little club, LA Fright Club.

What should our readers know about your business?
I would like the world to know that exercise is important for good physical and mental health, and it can also include your favorite horror character. Fitness doesn’t always look the same for everyone, it can be hiking, yoga, or a lifting session. I hope LA Fright Club can continue to be there for the spooky and unusual people like me in their fitness journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start the morning with a hike at Runyon Canyon followed up with a coffee at Horror Vibes Coffee in North Hollywood. We then would stop by the Mystic Museum in Burbank to check out the horror exhibit and shop for some oddities. We would end our trip with lunch at Lucifer’s Pizza.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
LA Fright Club wouldn’t be here without the support of my family and friends. From shouting me out on their social media, showing up to my pop-up events, purchasing something, and believing in me even before I believed it would work. Special shout out to my mom and my aunt who run my booth with me rain or shine, you’ll never see my shop without one of them. They have been the backbone to this business since the beginning with learning how to screen print, market and run a business with me. I want to thank my grandparents for not only buying but also proudly wearing my horror clothing and advertising my business to anyone they meet. And thank you to my boyfriend for showing up for me whether is listening and supporting my ideas, helping at events, and always believing in me.
