We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Lea and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, what matters most to you?
Authenticity and connection are consistent themes in my businesses and my life in general. I am unapologetically myself and my businesses are 100% me. Potentially to my detriment, I don’t really “sell” my products and services – I simply talk about and express my passions, which are inspired by our connection with nature, ourselves, each other, and the greater source or universe. I’m particularly enamoured with native Australian birds, which comes out a lot in my art!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
During my Masters and PhD study, I took a special interest in positive psychology. I’ve lectured and published academic papers in this area, and my genuine passion to spread wellbeing shines through in everything I do. White Clay Mountain pieces help remind you to notice and connect with your environment and engage your tactile creativity, which are evidence-based ways to increase wellbeing.
All of my creations are one-of-a-kind and inspired by my local environment – no one will ever have the same pair of earrings. Every piece is made by my hands and perfectly imperfect. There is a lot of heart in my creations, and I think that shines through.
Alongside creating, I’m also a professional, business coach, bush spiritualist, and mum… but at this stage in my life, I’m taking big risks and diving headfirst into soul-driven endeavours. It’s taken me a little too long (in my opinion!) to realise that money just finds a way, and the most important thing in this short life is to unwaveringly follow your passions and purpose. If I can inspire or empower just one person to connect to their authentic self, nature, their true community, and a greater purpose, well, my work here in this lifetime has been worth it! I’m onto my second passion project now, and if you’re wondering whether to plunge into yours, what on earth are you waiting for? No regrets.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am the absolute worst person to plan an itinerary, so my advice would be to find someone else immediately haha! Things that I plan in advance are often disasters, so if it’s a week with me, prepare for spontaneity. Every day would start early in the morning with coffee, chai, or cacao in nature, most likely near the beach. Then there are countless special nature pockets around the Illawarra to explore depending on the conditions. We could end up barefoot on the beach, hiking through rainforest, or just sitting on the grass somewhere looking up at the clouds. We’ll probably hug some trees, sight some birds, eat picnics, take our shoes off, and jump in puddles. It’s the simple things in life, and we’re really spoilt for choice in this part of the world. If I happened to run a jewellery workshop, I’d invite them along. If I was currently working on a pottery collection, I’d get them behind the wheel making masterpieces. If there was a New Moon or Full Moon, it’s likely we’d spend an evening of Tarot, celebration, and/or intention setting. There’s actually a local Full Moon skinny dipping group I’ve been meaning to get involved in!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Outside of giving a big shoutout to my beautiful home in the Illawarra on the southeast coast of Australia and my chosen family and spiritual guides? Well, I feel very fortunate to be part of a beautiful small business in our local area, Sketch Coffee and Art in the coastal town of Towradgi. Sketch is a beautiful family-owned-and run cafe where my jewellery features alongside a number of local businesses in their gorgeous little gift shop. Even though it’s a relatively small shop, most of the customers I speak to tell me that this is where they discovered White Clay Mountain! I’m so grateful that we connected during COVID lockdowns in 2021… the rest is history.
