We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Lynne Morley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca Lynne, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There was not much thought process behind starting my own business. As an artist, I try not to think too much. I try to just feel. I believe that is what artists are meant to do; feel things, & then translate those feelings via their medium. My medium is sound & vision, so music & the internet/anything you can see whether it is moving images (film), still images (photos), a light show, or a real life human. I am neurodivergent, & after I graduated from University, I tried working in an office. While there, I realised that I could not survive in a structured environment. I wanted the freedom to be myself & create music, write poetry, DJ, travel, spend time with people I love, & stay healthy & active by doing yoga, dancing, meditating, etc. I never ‘fit in’ within an office environment, & constantly felt like I was singled out for being different. When I got scouted to model & sing, I realised that a creative environment is a much better fit for me. So, just by looking for a place where I felt comfortable to be myself; that is what caused me to create my brand.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I really don’t like talking about myself too much; but Princess Cyberspace is beyond me. She (or it if we are talking A.I./cybernetics) is not just myself, it can be anyone. That is what great pop art is; it is a reflection of society. I think that we are going through a major shift right now, slowly but surely, & that shift will hopefully help my art & music be more well-received. I don’t only see myself as an actress or a musician, but an overall artist, who can accomplish any creative task. I think I’ve said this before, but as soon as we start ‘dividing’ people or putting them in to boxes/categories, that is when we are going backwards, & unless you are a great historian or an archeologist, what is the purpose of digging up the past?
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Beverly Hills Hotel. Abbot Kinney. Roku Sushi In Santa Monica. Erewhon, because they don’t have it in any other metropolis (yet). When my sisters come to visit I drag them to Equinox &/or Hot 8 Yoga with me. Hidden Treasures in Topanga Canyon. Santa Monica Mountains. Point Dume Beach in Malibu. I don’t want to be stalked so I’m not naming any more places.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If anyone knows me at all, they know that the first person I shoutout is always David Bowie. Cliché, I know, but I truly have such a spiritual connection with him. I don’t want to sound schitz so I’m not going to go into detail. My first musical mentors, Tim Lukas, Stelio Marshall, & Adam Pavao. My Rabbi whom sponsored my conversion, David Wolpe. The ‘ayahuasca Rabbi’ as my friends & I call him, Rabbi Peretz Mochkin, for being so traditional yet so futuristic at the same time (he integrates plant medicine into ancient Jewish teachings which is so incredible to me). My parents & sisters, obviously. Anyone who has ever booked me to model, act, DJ, or write/sing. I could go on forever but I am cutting myself off here.
