We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Milam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe the most important factor behind my brand and my work is truly caring about people! I started out as a journalist because I have a passion for people. There is so much to learn about others and getting the opportunity to capture their stories is so special. I think my wedding photography is now successful because I carried that passion and care over into the work I create now. I absolutely love EVERY love story!! Seriously, there is a 95% chance I cry at my clients wedding because each and every one is unique and I just love what I do!! I am grateful every time I photograph a wedding because I get to be a part of a huge day in someones life and I get to capture and create the images that they will look back on for the rest of their lives. I also love being a hype woman and friend to every client and I think that creates a safe space for them to feel comfortable in front of the camera giving me the best raw and intimate moments to capture!!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a wedding photographer that truly just loves love!! I am constantly inspired by the love and sweetness that couples share on their wedding days and I absolutely love being a part of it all. I would describe my work as classic and romantic and still very journalistic! I love natural lighting and I get so excited behind the camera when we get to make magic! I seriously get giddy like a little kid and can’t wait to show my clients. I am most proud of starting my business and being a full time stay at home mom to two beautiful daughters under two.. it has been so so hard and 90% of the time I am exhausted but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I love what I do and I am so lucky to have a career that inspires me and provides for my family all at the same time. I am living the dream, truly. Don’t get me wrong- it is hard and wedding days can be SO stressful. But if you can roll with the punches and focus on what is truly important, you can create and capture all of the sweet moments and love in images that your client will cherish forever. I have learned so many lessons along the way but I think the most important is to never compare yourself to others, it is the quickest way to kill your creativity and rob your own work of the joy that you deserve. Always push yourself to be better but also celebrate all of your success and see yourself as the badass individual that you are!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
With everything that has been going on, it is so hard to even imagine getting to play tourist with a friend. It has been quite a year.. But I think any out of towner needs serious beach views and sunshine and lots of In-n-Out! LOL. Also, the art scene here is impeccable and getting to see places like the Getty is so so special!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who have believed in me and my work over the years and I couldn’t be more grateful. From the high school teacher who helped me have a creative outlet in high school, to my incredible family, I have been so so lucky to have had people in my corner. A huge huge thank you to Danica Carver, who really helped me take my wedding photography to the next level. You believed and trusted me to be your second shooter way before I knew what I was doing and gave me the outlet to fall in love with wedding photography and I will always be grateful for your friendship and mentorship! I am also thankful for my parents believing in me and allowing me to pursue photography from the get go and helping me get an education that was passion based. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without their love and support. And always, I couldn’t be more thankful for my amazing fiancé Andrew and our sweet baby girls.. you three inspire me to be the best photographer I can be every day and you bring joy to my life. Thank you for always being in my corner.
