We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebekah Brumfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebekah, what inspires you?
As a Black woman in business, being inspired to create and build businesses is not just about personal success, but also a way to shatter glass ceilings and pave the way for others in my community. Harnessing the strength instilled by my parents and the determination to succeed against all odds, I am driven to turn my passions into thriving ventures that contribute to economic empowerment and create opportunities for fellow Black entrepreneurs. By building businesses, I aim to leave a lasting impact for the generations behind me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth. Everything is trial and error. The blessing is I have great support from my parents and friends. The struggles have been few and the feedback from my followers lets me know whether something is working or not. If something is a constant struggle, I let it go and try a new concept.

In addition to constantly creating, I’ve added podcaster to my resume. I also a cohost on The Jamal Bates Morning Show, relaunching my Matte Lip Color line by the JeanEllen Lifestyle Collection, and begun my own spice line called, Ophelia’s Creole Razzle Dazzle Seasoning. They are all available now at www.shopjeanellencollection. The response has been amazing.. I’m so grateful!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
OHH gosh where do we begin? As a self proclaimed foodie, I would definitely have to start the morning off with brunch from Chimes by LSU.. Literally, the best biscuits I’ve ever had and their margaritas are unmatched. So many great places to choose from. I’d also want to make sure we go to Roux 61 for Chargrilled Oysters. As the weekend gets closer, create a home backyard vibe with a crab and shrimp boil, some “church punch’ and, invite the crew over. We love a good game night! Saturday, day trip to New Orleans. First stop would be Wrong Iron on the Green for their wings! Great wings for soaking up and regrouping after a long night. Cant be in New Orleans and not walk down Canal and Bourbon Streets. Hopefully, we can get in a brewery or two. An absolute must to end the evening walking along Decatur, Frenchman, and Fulton Streets for live music and street dancing..

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My daughter, Sasha, deserves a lot of credit and recognition. She’s been super patient and supportive as I build our media empire. I tell her all the time, “All of this is for you to have no worries when its time for college!” Even though, she’s a teenager, she still gives the best hugs and sweet kisses. I hope she understands the sacrifices!
