We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebekah Zepfel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebekah, is there something you believe many others might not?
Today’s “hustle” culture often pushes that women can “have it all” and that we simultaneously need to have the most successful career while being the best mother. I think this concept is secretly killing entrepreneurial women everywhere. We are constantly trying to “have it all” but where is this “mysterious” balance between success and family that people always talk about? The one that says we can be great at everything only if we try harder and sleep less? I think it’s an unrealistic standard that no one can actually reach. To me, the truth lies in between. It’s about compromise. We can’t have it all, so we must settle for good enough. I look at life by constantly asking myself, “When I am older, which decision will I be most proud of?” Sometimes it means you miss out on bedtime with your kids, and sometimes it means the team has to figure it out without you. Putting out fires and acknowledging we have limitations is the best we can hope for. Why are we trying to be super when we are already great?
What should our readers know about your business?
Lemon and Honey Day Spa is founded on the concept of empowering women and collaborating with Lemon & Honey’s team of skincare experts to achieve success. We subscribe to the blending of both Eastern and Western wellness techniques. So much of our success comes from being able to find a solution from many different teachings and beliefs. We’re most proud of having a full understanding of the science behind skin care and being able to understand the how and why something works, which helps us deliver the best results for our clients. We love to be able to transform a client’s confidence by how they feel in their own skin. When you feel good, you look good! As a business owner, I have learned that the intentions you bring into a situation will directly impact your results. A positive mindset is powerful and being optimistic goes a long way. If success finds you—and I hope it finds us all—it won’t be because you thought it never would happen. It will be because you believed it always would. When an opportunity or a setback comes your way, take advantage of every moment. Learn from your mistakes and be open to any and all solutions that keep you on track for success. If you keep making the same mistakes, you won’t grow and if you say no to opportunities, they may never come back. The key to success in my opinion is to believe in yourself and believe you are already successful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We recently had a French exchange student visit us and based these recommendations off what she loved and enjoyed. The Irvine Regional Park has beautiful oak trees, a zoo, bike rentals, fun events like concerts in the park and a cute train and pony ride for the kids. Huntington Beach’s main street has a nice little café with a beautiful view of the beach called Sugar Shack Café. It’s great for people watching too! Then you can easily head to the beach and learn how to surf! Crystal Cove is always a great spot for visitors—it’s picturesque and has a tranquil calming effect. Of course, you have to go to the famous Crystal Cove Shake Shack for a beach-side shake. For a taste of my childhood, the Holiday Skate roller rink is tons of fun and there’s nothing more nostalgic than disco lights, good tunes and taking some wobbly laps around the rink. For a little city escape, going fishing and hiking around Big Bear Lake is perfect for visitors who like the outdoors. Finally, an OC visit isn’t complete without a going to Disneyland and In-N-Out!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When a small business owner feels overwhelmed, we need a grounding force to help provide direction or decide which area(s) to focus on. Multiple companies have helped guide and support Lemon & Honey Day Spa as we have grown. When we first started, we turned to Kristen Foss for coaching. Together, we set the precedent for Lemon & Honey Day Spa’s systems and developed our marketing strategy, hiring strategies and daily operations systems. We are who we are today and proudly deliver a consistent, reliable service for our guests because of Kristen’s support and organizational skills. We also owe a shoutout to Strategies, a spa coaching company that has developed a team-based pay strategy that helps businesses grow a team-based mindset, and helps business owners understand business finances that are critical to growth. Lastly, a thanks to our branding and marketing designer Honey & Co. We have been able to develop our brand voice and style thanks to Chelsea at Honey & Co.
