We had the good fortune of connecting with Reginald Baylor III and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Reginald, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Through Twelve Rounds, I have been able to build a community, The Family of Fighters, and use apparel and other mediums of art to inspire people to persevere through all obstacles, big and small. Whenever I tell someone the meaning of Twelve Rounds they instantly connect with the brand and I have had numerous conversations with people that have told me they found themselves wanting to give up on life itself, but the saying “Keep Swinging” kept them in the fight. Twelve Rounds connects with people on a personal level. Fighters have said that Twelve Rounds is “a standard to live by” and they feel like “the impossible is possible” when they wear the apparel and accessories.
What should our readers know about your business?
Founded in Baltimore City, Twelve Rounds stands for “No matter what fight you’re put up against in life, no matter how hard or how many times you get knocked down…get back up, keep swinging, and finish the fight”, in other words “Life is Hard. So What? Keep Swinging”. I created my brand in 2016 to encourage mental and emotional strength to face all sorts of adversities. Through apparel, designs, and messages Twelve Rounds stands as a lighthouse in the darkness, as a coach in your corner, and as a pillar to stand on. Every product is made to boost your confidence and not only commands your attention, but demands your respect. All collaborations and projects are done with the intention to inspire a mindset which embraces the reality that things are not over until it’s over, so don’t ever give up. It hasn’t been easy to grow a brand from nothing into something it is today, but it’s a passion. Just as life presents problems, so does business and I treat everything with the same attitude, Keep Swinging. The most important thing is to not stop with your journey. It’s okay to pivot position, try new strategies, and take big chances. Just don’t quit at all. The world should know that each and every individual goes through battles that cannot be measured to the next person, but people continue to give life their all everyday and that’s what we need more of to make the world a better place.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think anyone visiting LA has to go to Roscoe’s. The Grove has a cool experience and a good list of places to eat at. I would take them on a hiking trip up Kenneth Hahn to enjoy a nice overview of the city. They would have to try some Pinky’s, an authentic taco truck, and Tao for an elegant dinner. Personally, one of my favorite places is Fairfax because of the fashion. I dream of owning a storefront in the district in the near future.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give thanks to my mother for always allowing me to be myself, nurturing me to be an original thinker, and being my biggest supporter. My big brother, Chase Fitness in LA County, for being my protector and teaching my real morals to live by. The rest of my family for always being in my corner, having my back, and giving me the necessary love and guidance. I’d like to thank the elders in my life for instilling so much wisdom and being open to hearing my perspectives of life. I’m thankful to all of my friends for being so supportive and always keeping me motivated. To everyone that has ever been moved by Twelve Rounds, my quiet supporters, loyal supporters, the people that have tattooed my logos and quotes, the people that wear their wristbands faithfully everyday, I THANK YOU WILL ALL MY HEART! Lastly, thank you to the Higher Power and all of my guardian angels. Grandma and Kishawn – I love y’all.
