We had the good fortune of connecting with Ren Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ren, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor, of not only my personal success, but who I am as a man, is my relationship with Jesus Christ. My brand was built on the understanding that my life and my career, is not my own. And all things I do, I should do to the glory of God. Glass Darkly was birthed from 1 Cor. 13:12 which explains how we see the world; “through a glass darkly” but eventually we will see Jesus face to face. Who is the essence of truth, love, and peace in this world which echos what we search for in the art of photography, and art in general.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently, I’m working as a commercial actor, & wedding, portrait, & headshot photographer. My most recent work includes commercials for the 2020 Census, Ruffles Chips, and US Navy Military. Though I love so many aspects of photography including wedding, maternity, fashion, my current focus is actually on headshots for actors. I love being able to combine my passion for acting with my love of photography and through headshots, I’m able to work with actors all throughout the week. Originally, my photography business was named “Ren Scott Photography”. Though in the back of my mind I knew that it would never be the final name. Finally, in 2019 I created my business “Glass Darkly”. The name comes from the scripture 1 Cor. 13:12 and is an ode to how we see this life through a dark glass, but eventually, we will see Jesus, the embodiment of truth and itself, face to face. And seeing that as a photographer I shoot everything through a dark glass lens, I felt it the perfect name for my business. The goal of Glass Darkly is to highlight God’s natural beauty in the world. We encourage all people, especially women, to embrace who God made them and push back against societal beauty standards like heavy makeup, and revealing clothes.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Here’s a 7 day itenerary:
Day 1: Santa Monica Pier Beach Day
Day 2: DisneyLand
Day 3: DTLA + Universal Studios
Day 4: Dog Haus Burgers + Milk Jar cookies
Day 5: LACMA lights + Walt Disney Concert Hall
Day 6: Shopping at the Galeria and Americana in Glendale + lunch at Lemonade
Day 7: Angeles National Forest trip + Dinner in Laguna Beach
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to God! I unashamedly boast in the goodness and mercy that The Lord has extended towards me. No matter the problem, hurdle, or hang up, Jesus has always been there to lift me up and help me keep going. If I have to pick a close second it’s definitely my mom haha 😂 who has easily done more for me than anyone else in this world. I’m so thankful for all the love and sacrifices she and my Dad have done for me.
