We had the good fortune of connecting with Renee Goodwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Renee, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
People are unaware of the struggle of the ups and downs. Some days you’ll sale out and some days you’ll sale the bare minimum there will be periods where you struggle. In the beginning it is always more going out than coming in, it takes a lot of money, dedication and Patience things do NOT happen over night. Then there is the mental part where Insecurities and anxiety comes in and sometimes it will start coming out in your work. You will fail a lot in the beginning and through your journey allow your self to make mistakes! Learn from them Don’t be so hard on your self you will come out of it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am from Baltimore, Maryland but I live in Columbus, OH at moment! I was inspired to start my business honestly because I hated working for other people. All of my friends were young bosses and starting their own brands and it inspired me to want to start my own and see where it goes. I started PAF clothing based on people always telling me I’m “pretty” etc and I decided to just make that my clothing line name with a little edge to it! I already had a platform on Instagram @missezrenee just for posting decent photos that people liked and I gained a huge following so I thought why not start a brand? It has definitely been a rocky road and I am still learning, it has been very hard. I’ve learned to always keep a positive mindset and I’ve learn that it’s okay to make mistakes! I use to be super hard on my self. I think what sets me aside from others is my strive to want to do better and my mind set is totally different than the average person I can always bounce back from any obstacles. I am excited for new brand collab I have coming up as well as the revamp for PAF clothing and our new launches and photoshoots and advertisements!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite place to be Is L.A! And I would say something simple a nice beach visit, eating tacos all day and listening to R&B music in the car and having deep conversations would def be a vibe for me and my friends! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout-out to my parents my mother and father & brothers have been very supportive kept me grounded on a mental level whenever I am feeling down I can always give them a call to make me feel better. My second shoutout will be to my best friend Yams @gotshybyher she is a well known photographer based in L.A and we met through work and became close friends based off of our struggles of being an entrepreneur. We get each other through the roughest times often going through the same thing at the SAME time work related and personal. She is a true gift. My third shoutout will be to “Big Heff” Quincy Taylor CEO of Capital Structure Ent, my partner and mentor he seen something in me and my brand and has invested and has pushed me to be way better and gives the greatest advice and structure on how to BETTER the brand and I will always be very grateful for that!
