We had the good fortune of connecting with RESORT and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi RESORT, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
We don’t think we’ve succeeded but the most important factor behind our ‘success’ is knowing what success means to us and that is when our listeners tell us that our music or what ever medium we’ve put out resonated with them either at that particular point in time or just in general.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We don’t necessarily pride ourselves in being different (haha) but if there is one thing we are thankful about ourselves – it is that we are pretty down-to-earth people with everyone we meet. We try to be unapologetic with our lyricism and our music, but what needs to be said has to be done and we are firm believers of that.

We write indie pop music but let’s be honest, nobody really knows what that is anymore. As a band, we’ve evolved our sound as we grew as artists and listeners ourselves. Over 2021, we took a hiatus from releasing and rediscovered ourselves as RESORT. We wrote collectively over 20+ songs, of which we’ve started releasing this year with our first song, ‘Wedding’ performed as a surprise item by our newly wedded frontman, Sek Hao to his wife, Chloe (also known as SHN – artist name) on their wedding day in February 2022. The more legitimate debut of this new season in our band/brand was with the release after that, ‘Better Than Lying’. All can be found on Spotify, etc.

It would be an understatement to say that we had our fair share of struggles – ie. ways of working, our own expectations of professionalism, general expectations of the band, expectations of responsibilities, writing music together, etc. It wasn’t easy. We had go through a lot of pain and confusion, mediated interventions and worst of all, it took a lot of time which was hardest especially for impatient individuals (Sek Hao – frontman). We still fight today but the connection has never been more tight knit and more genuine.

Vulnerability, humility and honesty are arguably the greatest lessons we’ve learnt as a group.

We’re just three boys writing honest good music for you to dance/cry to and to experience as much as we have grown up experiencing music as an experiential entity ourselves.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oof! Hi, Sek Hao here 🙂

Depending on what sort of a holiday go-er the person is. I’m more of a relaxed person, I love adventures but not too insane if you know what I mean haha.

Firstly, the entire week long trip would be a food galore sorta adventure because Malaysia is a place for foodies, no cap. I sincerely believe Malaysia has an array of good food you cannot find anywhere else in the world. Some notable places we’ll definitely visit are Village Nasi Lemak, Sharif Chicken Rice, Sunrise Duck, Levain Boulangerie & Patisserie for good pastry and coffee, and many other food places. We’ll probably try all of them in the week long process.

Other than that, we’d probably chill in between at more cafes, check out some local gigs happening at night, visit famous places like Genting Highlands and potentially a road trip to other states like Ipoh, Melaka, Penang, so on so forth. Generally, a pretty relaxed trip!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We’d like to thank our families who are our main supporters, our friends who were our day ones before any of our music or shows had any traction, you (our listeners/fans) for being the reason why we do what we do and God, the one whom we believe orchestrated this entire mix and is still very much at play.

Special shoutout to Isaac Miranda, owner of PlainPacks for believing in us since our conception in 2019 till now, and for doing far more than you ever needed to for us. We love you all and we appreciate you so so much.
