We had the good fortune of connecting with Rica Dee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rica, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued a creative career due to constantly being criticized for doodling in class, and eventually sketching at my 9 to 5’s. Creating art, whether drawing, sculpting, or new product ideas, has always taken priority over holding a “normal” job. I have never been able to sustain a job that was only about the money. So why not create, create, create!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The road I’m on has been extremely interesting. I wouldn’t say it’s been hard, but it definitely hasn’t been easy. Having 2 businesses in the making, while being a full time mom, girlfriend, trying to stay fit, and holding a full time job, has been draining yet fulfilling. Patience and more discipline has become two aspects that I’ve learned along the way. I’d like the world to know that Vth. Skin will continue to strive to keep manmade chemicals out of the products. Hydration, healing, and feel-good sensation is what I’m about. It’s something that can be done with love from the earth, not in a lab.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Saturday: a day in Koreatown where I grew up. First, some relaxation for a few hrs at Wi Spa then off to korean bbq! Over at Road to Seoul on Western Ave. Then end the night with a few drinks at Mama Lion. Sunday: mimosas! At Kitchen 24 in WeHo.
Monday: a day of getting some online work done.
Tuesday: walk Hollywood Blvd and enjoy Taco Tuesday at Te’Kila!
Wednesday: a great day to ride bikes on the Venice Beach boardwalk to see and support artists and local shops. The Santa Monica pier is the next stop. Visit a friend close by until it’s time for dinner at Nobu. In Malibu.
Thursday: visit film friends. Show them around film studios and give history lessons. One of the studios would totally have to be HQ Avalon. Working there was a blast! Thanks to Chad, the owner and friend.
Friday: ride through Compton, Long Beach, and Inglewood to show music references, historic streets and a little background in Black culture.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Hands down, every bit of my success is due to having a supportive mom. She has spent time, money, and emotion into being there for me and my non conventional decisions with a creative career. She goes by Ms. Brown. The sweetest and most understanding woman you will ever meet. Whenever pieces of my world collapsed, she stopped everything to help me put them back together, plus some. I believe when we have someone support our dreams and aspirations, it eliminates the doubt we may have put into our minds if we didn’t have the support. I couldn’t have asked for a better mom.
