Meet Ricardo Muniz | Vocal Student

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricardo Muniz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ricardo, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks throughout my life has taught, and continues to teach me, how important one’s time and interconnectedness with others is. Ever since taking my biggest-ever leap of faith at age 17 moving to Chicago, to pursue what I loved, three hours away from where I had graduated and family lived.
Moving to a brand new city without knowing anybody taught me that regardless of where you are, people are always there for one another. Whether that is your family, closest friends, and even strangers.
Taking risks from there on has kept me grounded keeping that understanding in mind and heart. Ever since then I have lived in Miami, Portland OR, and now Los Angeles, always pursuing my intuitions ambition’s. But always aware that without a sense of community or proper time management, isolation can quickly kick in. Time and community are my guides throughout every risk I take.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Aside from music school (vocal performance) twice a week, I have been working for a moving company as a mover, and also as a driver for uber. Both jobs have many pros that I am grateful for even though not related to the music business or performance. But they’ve helped me pay the bills!
The brotherhood I have built with my fellow movers is something I really appreciate. Something I hope to foster with future band mates. Along with the many clients and places we get to meet, and the free workout we get in during every move !
Uber is appreciated because I really like to drive, and listen to music! Between every ride I am almost always studying and rehearsing specific songs that I get to perform.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
After picking up my friends from the airport, I’d likely take them on a driving tour of the greater Los Angeles area! Along with a stop here and there at local food stands.
If it were a week long trip we’d probably do outdoor activities, like hiking somewhere along the Los Angeles Forrest, where we can be near waterfalls. Or if we want some snow, head to big bear too. We would go a bit north and check out the famous Redwood National Park, which I haven’t had the honor of meeting yet.
For some beach time, the Malibu beaches, and then head to Venice beach waters, where the energy is ever glowing.
We would end the week touring the radius of the Hollywood walk of fame and then off to Weho, to dance the night away !
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to send a shoutout to my friends and family who have been accessible and receptive, while listening to my struggles and achievements whenever I’ve needed an ear and advice.
Also shoutout to the many strangers who have clapped or cheered me on during all of my street performances throughout the past five years ! Your support is ever encouraging 🙏🏼
