We had the good fortune of connecting with RICCARDO BERDINI and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi RICCARDO, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I think it’s the fact that sometimes you need to work 20 hours per day. Not only you’re constantly looking for new clients and new gigs, but also you’re also constantly looking for new material and new ideas, you’re constantly studying psychology, history, science, physics, math, philosophy anything that can inspire you and help you to create new routines and develop new principle. Its a constant challenge to improve your skills and create something new that will leave the world astonished. Did you see the movie The Prestige? Without such competition with each other, but that’s how we live… it’s a passion that sometimes can become obsession.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe in story telling. Everything we do in life is telling stories, whether is reporting what we did during the day to our partner or to our parents, whether we tell a joke to our friends, whether we make fun of someone else’s actions. Quoting Doctor Who “We are all stories in the end”. When I realized I was not performing magic to be the center of attention, but that my job was to tell a story, to inspire us to believe again in the innocence we’ve all lost growing up, to remind us that life is pure magic… when I started to do that, something change in the way I was performing and I quickly became very successful. People started to book me all the time. I started to make people very happy. For a brief moment in their lives, my spectators forget about their problems and believe in the existence of a different world, a world full of wonder and incredible possibilities, for a moment they see life from a different perspective, with different eyes… for a moment there is only happiness. It’s only a moment, but you’re going to remember it forever.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First of all The Magic Castle, my favorite place in the world (of course lol). Then Venice beach, such an iconic part of the city, the place where Jim Morrison and the Red Hot Chili Peppers wrote most of their songs. Then I would stop at the most peculiar speakeasy of all, Umbrella and Co on Melrose, where Austin and Zach are going to treat my friends with amazing hospitality, A visit at the Observatory and at the Hollywood Sign is mandatory, but then I would just drive around with my convertible, discovering new places and meeting great people. I love living the visit most than visiting, and all my friends who came to visit think the same, they are all in love with LA.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
1) My amazing family, my fantastic friends, all the people who constantly touch my life and teach me something more, helping me to get wiser and to amplify my vision of life. 2) All the movies, the music, the books, the great artists and stories that taught me since I was a kid to become the best version of myself. They constantly inspire my performance and has lead me to genuinely connect with other human beings without any barrier or fear. 3) Last, but most important, my faith as a christian. Not the blind and extremist vision that too often I see in the Christian world, but a balanced and joyful way of living that is found on the beautiful principles of the Bible. It helps me to be a better man and to have a strong purpose in life. What can I say? I believe in the power of stories. And the Bible is the greatest story we have.
