We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricci Bester-Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ricci, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My first love is acting, and where I want my career to end, but I took a long look at what my road to get there would be like. One thing I had to realize is you need to be available to pursue this line of work. I had other side gigs that were around entrepreneurship but never really took it seriously until that move. As time went on, it became more of something I could pass down to my children as a form of generational wealth.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Oh geez. At heart, I’m an actress, but have developed my skills in other areas (Directing, Writing, Special Effects MUA), but I became a business owner by accident. I knew I needed to still pay rent while auditioning but leave my time open for any callbacks or extra work. I think what sets me apart from either sector is I’m a creative entertainer with a business sense. I can bring both to the table. Some people think those have to be separate, but you need to know how to be business savvy in the entertainment sector. Knowing your worth. On the other side, it’s not always about dollars being a business owner. It’s being able to get people’s attention on why you are different from everyone else. There is a lot of similarities between the two.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So far, it’s been The Grove hands down. It’s so much fun and laid back to take friends especially if they are from out of town.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh wow, I think it’s hard to say one singular person who has had a hand in my success. I discuss and collaborate with a lot of people but a small circle of friends has been my solid rock in the work in progress. I like to call them my accountability circle. Crystal, Steven, Haleh, Ruth, Sara, Roop, Janice, Erika, and my kiddos (my crew) have all had a hand in getting this far. So much love to them, because it’s always sunshine and rainbows being a business owner and in the entertainment sector.
