We had the good fortune of connecting with Rich Bomb and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rich, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m originally from Louisiana. I grew up in two different cities. I was born in Baton Rouge and partially raised in New Orleans (Westwego). Both areas I grew up in were poverish. I grew up between the hood and the projects. I saw a lot, hookers, D-boys, crackheads, violence, abandoned houses, drugs, police brutality, experienced racism…heard a lot of gun fire. I’ve had a gun placed to the back of my head when I was only 17…I had to grow up fast and be street smart. I was raised by my grandparents and grandaunt (Sista) who lived in Baton Rouge; In Westwego I was raised by my cousin Cookie, which is practically my mother. I was adopted around age 1, because my biological mother was too young and too wild to care for me; Also she was only just a baby herself, she was 14 and I was kid number 2.

Growing up in those rough places gave me thick skin. It opened my eyes to a lot of real sh*t. It motivated me to leave. Senior year of high school, I applied for the United States Air Force, then soon left afterwards which then changed my life forever. I served four year honorably in the Air Force, which also directly sculpted who I am as a man and individual. I was stationed at Los Angeles AFB throughout my enlistment. I was only 18, living thousands of miles away from friends and family. I was forced to create a new life from scratch. Being out in Los Angles alone taught me, resilience. I had to learn fast, bounce back quickly from failures, I had no time for self petty when I had real responsibilities in front of me. In the military there are no such thing as excuses either, only accountability. Overall those elements created a man filled wit fortitude. I don’t feel that there is anything I can’t do, unless I just don’t want to do it. There is nothing I can’t overcome..and I know how to take L and turn it into a lesson. I wouldn’t take back a rainy day because those days made me, Meh…No man can ever walk in my boots.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an LGBTQ Rapper, which is unique by itself. I consider myself one of the pioneers of the genre. Until recently there wasn’t even a Gay Hip-Hop Genre but now it’s coming to the forefront. In the past, LGBTQ Artist were shun and the only ones that became stars had to hide their sexuality, with the exception of a small few.

I am very different from my peers who are under this genre. My style is commanding, boastful and edgy. As soon as the track begins, it captures the listener. My music gets your heart pumping, blood flowing and body moving. I’m a southern artist from “Da Boot” aka Louisiana, so you can hear that south vibe resonate throughout my music. My music is bold and unapologetic…which I’m most proud of. Even after reading negative reviews regarding my music, I never allowed the comments to stop me from making the music I wanted to make.

I got to where I am today, by never giving up and taking risk. Even at the beginning of my journey when I saw nothing but darkness, I still knew that I had to follow my dreams. I opened myself up to different paths and embraced the unknown. In life you have to control fear or it will control you. Honestly once my mind is set on something, I just keep going and don’t stop. I pray about it and keep digging. I know that if I keep going, yeah I’m will stumble and fall many times, some will hurt, may even make me want to cry and/or give up…but doing so I’ll be stuck in a place I no longer desire to be. I believe in progression, so when things become stagnant it bothers my core, which in turn makes me want to pick up my feet and move. Nothing in my life has ever been easy…nothing…and I understand that the best things in life, come from perseverance.

Look man, as long as you’re alive…on this ghetto floating rock aka Earth, flying through space at 300,000 MPH….lol sh*t will happen. Being alive is the best gift in the universe. Everyday won’t be rainbows and butterflies, but you get another chance to see them tomorrow, if you’re lucky. Cherish the day and never give up on yourself, because I won’t give up on Meh.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Knowing my best friend, she’s adventurous, similar to me, she loves to try new things. We’ll probably do a slue of activities, bowling, go-karts, mini-golf, skating, ATVs and maybe even indoor rock climbing. I’m also a foody so I love to eat, in addition to being a sucker for a good happy hour…lol. I’m a chill guy and she’s a chill gurl, so I’ll probably take her to El Torito, have some mexican food and margaritas or even Chill’s. I’m a big fan of dessert, so we’ll def have to hit a few bakeries of my choice, nothing like fresh baked goods. Late night if we were to step out and enjoy some night life action, there are a few bars in West Hollywood and Long Beach which have cool vibes.
