We had the good fortune of connecting with Richard Grob and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Richard, why did you pursue a creative career?
When I was a kid, they told me I have dysphasia ( a language disorder). I could speak but a lot as my friends. So I decided to draw instead to speak for showing what I have to said. Then my imagination evolved and I decided to work in the cinema industry.

Now I’m working as a editor for videos and trailers. From what I learn about this work is we can create without limits. This work reflects in one thing in me : my experience. Culture is the most important thing in this world and that helped to growing my imagination.

In the 2000’s, not many people took very seriously the future of the video, now it’s becoming one of the most important business in our generation. This creative career allows me to take a different path to express myself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m really proud to be part where our creation has no limits. Being editor helped me a lot to express myself. It was really difficult at the beginning to learn all this tools but more we made mistakes more we approach to the success. When I said success it means that you can live with your passion : enjoy your job.
What it is interesting about this job is there is no rules, it’s just about your imagination… how you’re gonna bring to life the story.
But the dangerous part and can be our weakness is the ego. If you want to do a great a job, you have to spent at least six hours and you really care what you’re building but some people can be disagreeing with you and you don’t want to change, you defend it. That’s not what we have to do, you have to prove the others that your job has no limits. Instead seeing ‘No’ we have to said ‘What if’. I did a lot of mistakes on the past and I faced the consequences but now it’s impossible for me to say “No’. I have to be patient and ready to start over, my job was getting easier because by starting over and over I could discover new tools and new ways to tell a story.
Now I treat my mistakes as a friend not an enemy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We know L.A is a huge city, which means a lot of possibilities and lot of cultures to discover. First thing in the morning, I will bring my friend in Burbank to taste the best French pastries: ‘Lou the French on the Block’. It’s really amazing to enjoy the morning’s sun with a beautiful coffee and a delicious croissant or some cakes…
After that let’s do a nice road trip for going to a little paradise : ‘The Beachcomber’ at Newport Coast. We eat there and then let’s enjoy the beach.
When it’s getting darker it’s time to go back in L.A, to rest a little bit and then be ready for going to Santa Monica having a nice drink in the famous place : The Bungalow. We end the day with beautiful cocktails around nice peoples.
Then a new day start, which means an other opportunity to enjoy L.A

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a lot of recognition of my classmates when I was doing my Master degree in New York Film Academy because we supported each other all the time even we were down.

From them I learned that speaking with each other we can create unique ideas. This job requires to be patient but also to listen what others have to said because we can miss an interesting conversation which can bring a create idea.

I will always remember them
