We had the good fortune of connecting with Richard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Richard, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I have to face.
Is actually about to come up, eventually that is.
I’m from a small town called Robstown. Located in south Texas just about 20 minutes from Corpus Christi.
There’s not much of a rap scene here in my town and so far this year I’ve done a lot of traveling for shows. And I’ve noticed that the more up north you go the bigger shows get the more connections start to arise and more opportunities start to open up. So with all that being said, as much as I don’t wanna leave, I believe leaving my hometown to continue my dream and allow it to grow to the size it’s meant to be, is the most difficult decision.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In all honesty I’m quite too sure what sets me apart from others, I’m not too concerned with what others have goin on or anything in that matter actually. I really just do what I do because it makes me feel good, music gives me goosebumps and it makes me so happy to hear my badass lyrics on a badass beat for all my people to party to
Smoke to chill to
Whatever they do.
Having my music on peoples playlists is the goal, and getting my message across however way I can as well. The message really is take control of what you got and who you are. Anything is possible on this planet, we all have the same amount of time in a day as the greats did, so we can be great too.

I still have a long way to go but it definitely took a lil while to get to where I’m at right now.
I guess because of being from a small town and not much support I wasn’t as known amongst other artists either connections.
Skill can only take you so far nowadays and it’s just a whole other ball park to even get looked at by the industry.
I never stop, even when told to or to get real or to get a career and give up the music
Not anyone can do it.
Well I believe I can and I will. And the fire inside and being able to help my family being able to help who I want being able to help myself. That’s what’s keeping me going.
My music can help someone through a rough patch one day,
Shows can pay my bills one day, can take me around the world and give me beautiful memories before the good lord calls upon me.
I’m tryna live it up and being on stage is how ima do it .

The lessons are to don’t trust a lot of people, and trust your gut.
Keep writing keep doing you, ain’t nobody gonna get you like you got you.
You’ll know when you have someone genuine on your team. You’ll feel that shit fasho.

$$YK! Is my artist name and that’s pronounced as “sike”
A long ass time ago I was kickin it with some homies
Jammin smoking, and I was feelin the music
Like really really feelin it, felt the goosebumps for the first time and I was like dam man I wanna make some music that’ll make me feel like this, then I thought woah I wanna make people feel like this, and then I just said out loud
Yo I think ima start rapping
Then they started laughing and one said “sike! You can’t rap”

Hearing that made the fire grow so I took sike
Put my on spin on it
Started rapping and here I am today.
I’m also starting a brand
L.F.D.O Rec
Live fast die old records
And here at lfdo we live fast we do what we want and get away wit it to cause we just too good like that. We gonna live long and die old cause we ain’t gettin caught we ain’t makin poor decisions we stayin smart in the game so we don’t have to leave this world sooner than were supposed to. I understand it’s out of our hands at the end of the day. But we here now and we taking control.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
BIG S/o to The homie, the producer I worked a lot with Alaskan Native, that boy done helped me with almost all my music. I can write like a monster but when it come to all that computer stuff, he was there for me.
Also big S/o to H4lftime studios for giving my music quality a level up. Much love.
Everyone I met this year doing shows, seeing everyone do their thang really gets me goin type shit.
