We had the good fortune of connecting with Richard Zamudio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Richard, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by creativity, art, and using art to display a purpose. With photography, it is not just about taking a photograph but being inspired to capture a moment that can have a profound impact on a person. It is impactful and very inspiring whenever you see or capture a photo that has no words but through its image, it can inspire a person.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Becoming a professional photographer was not easy and took a lot of practice, work, time and commitment. Unlike many photographers, I am self taught and did not start on my photography journey until I was in my late 20s as a hobby. I learned photography through watching YouTube Videos and practicing what I had seen. Initially, it was hard and I struggled and people told me that my photography was not good and that I should pick a new hobby. Despite these setbacks and lack of encouragement, I used it as motivation. Eventually, things started to click for me and I began to understand the different compositions and rules and what would make a photograph standout. Over the years, I have learned a lot but the most important thing that I have learned is to not give up. There are a lot of factors that can cause you to doubt yourself but you need to maintain your confidence and believe in your talent. I am very humble when it comes to my photography, in fact many do not know that I am a photographer when they first meet me. I want people to know that if they have a talent and passion for something, do not let anyone hold you back from pursuing what makes you happy. I want people to see me as not only as a photographer but someone who has worked hard to get to where I have and that I take my work very seriously as I see it as a reflection of me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For me, I like to explore nature, historical monuments, and good food. I would plan days where we would spend outdoors going to beautiful scenic sites. For example, I would go to the mountains and look at lakes, trees and be away from the city. Later, since I like to photograph, I would take them to places where there is a lot of street photography. Places that I would visit would be Santa Monica, Malibu, Downtown and Union Station. I feel that the city has one of the best city skylines and at night, I would take them to several spots to photograph the skyline at night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and friends have been huge supporters to my success, but none more than my dad. He has been my biggest supporter and encourages me to not give up on my dream to pursue by photography business. My dad has helped me to manage my stress, worries and concerns by being a constant support and never allowing me to stray away from my goals. I am very thankful to him as he is a huge part of my success.
