We had the good fortune of connecting with Rinat Tattarin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rinat, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Hi. I’ve always been drawn to drawing, for as long as I can remember, I always had pencils in my hands. As I grew older, the interest never faded, and in 2000 I saw the movie *From Dusk Till Dawn*, where in the final scene Clooney’s tribal tattoo appears on screen. Lol, but at that moment it made a big impression on me. I became obsessed with the idea of giving someone a tattoo. At that time, in my city (Tomsk, Siberia), tattoo culture was practically nonexistent, and there was no one to ask. I found a guy who had just gotten out of prison, and he showed me how they used to make tattoo machines out of electric razors or the motor from a tape player, a pen, and a guitar string. That’s how my experiments began. Later, I teamed up with a guy who had a bit more experience, and things got a lot more interesting.

In the early years, it was just a fun thing for me. I never thought it would become my main job. As my skills and desire to grow improved, it led me to tattoo conventions, and that’s when I realized what I wanted to do with my life. The decision was made.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My main feature is that I’m quite a versatile artist. I love doing realism, I’m into neo-traditional themes, I love Japanese styles, and I’m obsessed with biomech and organic designs. And I can say that I’m pretty good at all of this. Proof of that is the Hell City Best of Show 2024 in Phoenix, AZ, where I did a realistic witch.
The next fest was in Austin, TX, where I won Best of Show again, but this time with biomech.
Before moving to the States, I had accumulated about 40 international awards, and they’re all from different categories. You can check them out in the highlights on Instagram for anyone who’s interested ( @rinattattarin ).
The lesson I’ve learned is that you need to keep moving. If you stop, the world won’t wait for you. Move forward while you can.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh dude, I’m pretty new here. I moved here less than a year ago, so I don’t know much yet. But I definitely know that you can find everything you want here in LA. My buddy isn’t against meat, so I would take him to a Brazilian BBQ.
Every time I go somewhere here in LA, it’s a discovery for me there’s just so much here. It’s great to have so many options.
But if you ask me where was the best place where i have been – Sheregesh, a ski resort in Siberia. It’s the best place for skiers and snowboarders. I’m obsessed with snowboarding.
We used to go there with our tattoo crew, a whole bunch of people with boards hanging out, all united by the same passion. The views and atmosphere there are amazing, and it has the best snow of all the places I’ve been. And I’ve done a fair bit of riding, having visited 21 countries so far.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve had people by my side at every stage, encouraging me and sometimes giving me a little push forward, which can be incredibly helpful. It’s amazing to have such friends and loved ones. I believe I’ve been really lucky in that regard.
When the war started, I left Russia and began my life from scratch, but even then, I found many great people with whom I spent an amazing time in Georgia while preparing my documents for work in the States. Special respect to Alexander Gorshok, rest in peace.
I’m grateful to everyone who cares about what I do
