We had the good fortune of connecting with Robaflor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robaflor, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
The band members are from different parts of Los Angeles.  Christian is from Boyle Heights, and Eric is from North East Los Angeles, Puga and I (Daniel) are from South Central.  We all come from immigrant parents and with that comes shared experiences that we continue to discover amongst ourselves. Music has been a source of joy for us all and for us, it’s special to be able to share it with one another and our listeners. Our background is the catalyst behind our music and expression.

Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Our music has many sides. We have songs that are upbeat, melancholy, hopeful, chaotic, and then some. It makes us unique. We are excited and proud of our upcoming EP that will contain 5 songs. We plan to release it in late August or early September. We’ve been making music together for about five years, starting with Christian and I.  Eric and Puga have been a great addition.  They are incredibly talented musicians and have shaped what we are creating and are excited to present both live and in our recordings.  Along the way the lessons we’ve learned are to practice and to keep improving as musicians, keep an open ear, and to appreciate the time we have together.  I want the world to know that we are excited for what is to come and we appreciate all of you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Breakfast at La Morenita or Yeyas is always great. Can’t go wrong with the chilaquiles. After breakfast, a hike at Mount Wilson to witness the diversity of the wildlife in California. Afterwards go for a Banh Mi at the Thien Huong Vietnamese restaurant at the Far East Plaza in Chinatown. You can get coffee at Endorffeine while you’re there, it’s in the same plaza. If you’re up for thrift store shopping, Out of the Closet usually has some gems. There’s one in Atwater and there’s two in the Hollywood area. Dinner at Yuko kitchen is always good, a healthy alternative. To wind down, a film at Laemmle’s.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We’d like to give a shout out to our parents, our creative collaborators, and our friends. Marco Barajas and Emile Caines are two audio engineers that have helped bring our musical vision to life. Jessica Lopez was a founding member on the bass that was also fundamental. Matthew Ortiz helped on our first few recordings and is an amazing musician you can catch with other performing artists. Others that have helped us along the way are Bryan Diaz of the band “El Rio” and Victor Diaz of the group “Astral Jubilee,” two amazing groups that inspire us to keep pushing our musical limits. Melissa Uribe and Janet Ramirez also helped with backing vocals on our future EP scheduled to be released in late August or early September. Yadi Rocha has also played a part in helping us present ideas.  They designed the cover of our latest single and it came out really great. There are so many more people to thank for supporting us, so in no particular order here’s a few we can’t go without mentioning: Eddie Valencia and Eleanor Lucille of La Papaya Club and Mucho Gusto Fest, Nazarely Martinez who helped with the latest single release, Diego de Los Andes of Love Letter LA on KPFK, and Ale who organizes Avant Garde Presents!  Thank you to everyone who’s believed in us and supported us! Lately the love we’ve received has been really sweet.  We’re working on special live performances to give that love back!
