We had the good fortune of connecting with Robbie Fitzsimmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robbie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I feel a responsibility to share my gifts with the world. My art has proven to be capable of inspiring people into their greatness. I’m honored to have this ability and am certain I need to pursue my creative career because of it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a singer-songwriter with a voice of an angel, so I’m told. I’ve been singing, playing piano, and writing songs my whole life and say that my sound is like Queen meets Radiohead.
I’ve had the honor of co-writing with Lana Del Rey on an album that went platinum, studying songwriting one-on-one with Paul Simon while attending the Berklee College of Music, and singing on a poetry album with the remaining members of The Doors. Though my art goes beyond music in the videos and shows I produce to support my songs.
I’ve got bipolar disorder so my journey has been a roller coaster fraught with manic highs and debilitating lows. Everyone deals with ups and downs so I’m transparent about my own experience and my message to the world is that you’re not alone on this rollercoaster.
I’m now working with mental health professionals and have found a lot more stability in my life which is allowing me to finally release my debut album, Blue Meets Orange. I’ve been unveiling one song at a time every five weeks. The last song and full album comes out on May 24th.
I’ve learned that being an artist is not always easy but it’s important work, especially with the current state of the world. I have an ability to inspire people and help them process their own complex emotions. That feels meaningful to me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I find a lot of peace in nature so our first stop would be the Red Rocks State Park outside of Topanga Canyon. Its not even on a lot of locals’ radar but is a stunning little gem of a hike hidden in the Malibu mountains. Since we’re in that area, we might as well go surfing at Topanga Beach and grab some dinner at Reel Inn. Then we could meander around Abbot Kinney Blvd and have an ice cream at Salt & Straw. In the mornings we should grab coffee at some of my favorite spots in town like Groundworks or Philz. Breakfasts from the Yeasty Boys bagel food truck would also be on the itinerary. More hiking at Griffith Park for the views of town and bopping around Larchmont Village, grabbing a bite at Lemonade or Cafe Gratitude. We could check out Sante Alley and the fabric district downtown for a wild day of inexpensive shopping. Hopefully we could see a show at the Ace Theater and have dinner at Clifton’s Republic, but it’s currently closed. Anyway, the trip would consist of good food, LA nature, and delightful neighborhoods.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh wow… so many people… My parents, brother and grandmother, Kathleen Wirt and Sejo Navajas, Daniellow Ribiat, Ben Landis, Agentred, Kris Jung, Romina Noble, Janet the Planet, Zaalo Zarate, and many more who have believed in and support my vision.
