We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Frank and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley, the city of El Monte to be exact, a suburb just east of Los Angeles. There were a lot of kids in our neighborhood, my older brother and the guys his age were getting into the heavier rock bands of the day. I was soon listening to Sabbath, Kiss, Zeppelin and such by the time I was around 5 years old. I was hooked on music since then, plus my grandparents were musicians, I was always surrounded by music. I wanted to be a drummer in a rock band, I guess John Bonham and Peter Criss were my biggest influences before the age of 10. Because of that early childhood fascination and exposure to rock music, it has shaped who I’ve become as an adult. Plus my parents were very supportive of my freethinking, artist mentality, which I’m incredibly thankful for to this day.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am an audio engineer, producer, musician and owner of Minor Chord Studio. We provide clients in all aspects of music production. Not just recording but songwriting, producing, providing session musicians, vocal instruction and more. We make our clients vision come to life in the best possible way. Sometimes musicians have ideas and visions for a project but don’t have the know-how to get there, that’s where we come in. I’m very proud of the projects that have come out of our studio, seeing our clients happy is well worth the sometimes tedious journeys. I’m going on 30 years since I started working with bands, every project is a learning lesson to this day. I’m very fortunate to have worked with awesome people and pick up so much knowledge over the years, this in turn has helped us stay busy. Clients usually reference our work from different artists and seek us out, I guess the work speaks for itself these days and it’s all word of mouth.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, there’s a never ending list of things to do in the L.A. area, but if it came down to it, I’d have to recommend a road trip up the California coast. From Ventura, Santa Barbara and all points north it’s just fantastic, as far as the scenic drive and endless places to eat, wine tasting. So, whoever’s up for it, count me in!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always dedicate where I am today musically to my grandmother and great-grandfather, they were the first real musicians I was around as a child, They were very supportive of my brother and I growing up. My great gramps took music very serious and was a fantastic multi instrumentalist. I said the phrase recently “Hey, Gramps, I’m turning into you”. He would be very proud. Plus my parents, they allowed me to be whoever I wanted to be, no hangups, they allowed me to sway from convention, very supportive in whatever I was doing musically.
