Meet Robert Ingram | Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Ingram and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Im born and raised on the south side of Chicago Illinois. I was the youngest of four siblings navigating throughout a lower class neighborhood. Observing poverty, gang activity, drug use and violence consistently has an impact on your psyche. As a child you only could rely on your parents teachings or the bad choices you witness daily. My parents displayed hard work ethics and my older siblings never wavered or signed up for the street activities. I made a choice to not become a product of my environment and I wanted better for myself. I continued to push forward in my education and my creativity. Becoming incarcerated or killed by gang violence was not exciting for me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is created with colorful acrylic paint on small to large canvas. If you love art for home decor or within your business environment I have a piece for you. My vision is totally abstract from the next creative I see colors and visuals totally different. I’m most proud of the elevation in my creative process with my art paintings and clothing brand Basedontruth. The appreciation of consumers has a huge impact for a creative mindset. My excitement is for the opportunity of being one of the next known painters and clothing brands globally. This process of entrepreneurship is not for the weak minded. As an independent creative I have to constantly brainstorm marketing/ branding strategies to bring awareness to my brand Basedontruth. The art and fashion world is oversaturated with talented creatives. I have to create a unique brand for new consumers. I’ve learn new lessons each day running a clothing brand. Basedontruth is a new clothing option in this huge fashion industry. What can make this brand Basedontruth stand out for consumers compared to other brands? Researching quality blanks and manufactures for the best fabric option is a must. I learned as a owner/consumer that price points and unique labeling can add value to the brand. I want the world to know that Basedontruth is the DNA for all things. Everyone has formed a perspective or have established their own truth throughout life experiences. This new found truth is what makes you who you are. Basedontruth offers a creative option for all fashion, design and art aware individuals.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely have to eat breakfast at The Serving Spoon their food is on point. We would have to visit Venice beach and ride bikes. Next for a little entertainment we can visit Universal Studios. Bar CDMX is a cool spot to grab a drink. Fairfax is a must to shop and checkout a few stores. You have to workout at some point on this trip so Runyon Canyon for outdoor views.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I want to thank GOD. Also to my parents for providing morals and values. My granny has been a cornerstone in my entrepreneurial journey. To my business partner who saw the vision and work ethics and decided to join the journey. Salute to my friends and family for their support and encouragement.
