Meet Robert Silver | Lifestyle Fashion Photographer & Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Silver and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robert, what principle do you value most?
The older I get integrity matters to me more than most values. When ever I meet someone new that I plan to do business with my goal is to treat them as a direct reflection on how I expect to be treated. Being able to keep my word, the promises I make, means something.
With integrity also means being consistent. Now matter the kind of relationship I may have with someone they can always rely on my ability to be constituent in response, reliability, and how I deal with problems. Consistency has allowed others to be able to depend on me; regardless of the scale of project or personal issue.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Ive been a full time lifestyle fashion photographer for 12 years now. Photography found me when I was attended San Francisco Academy of Art University. I was going to school to become a film director. I ended up changing my major and school (Full Sail University). to Entertainment & Music Business.
During my studies to become Record Label executive at Full Sail University I ned to hire a photographer a couple of times for photos for a couple of local music artists I as working with. unfortunately, I ran into to some really unprofessional experience. Photographers who were late, still sleeping during our scheduled shoot time, and delivering subpar results.
Having taking a only one semester of photography, while I was at SF Academy of Art University, I figures I couldn’t be any worse than these jokers that call themselves a photographer. So I went to Best Buy and bought a camera and two lenses.
By the time I graduated I began to already began to get requests for event photography coverage and portraits to be taken by those who need band photos, and models needing headshots.
One day, while looking in a issue of VOGUE magazine, I said to myself, “I think I can do that. I know I can do it. Damn it, Im going to do it!”
I had absolutely no clue how to get to the point of creating images like the ones I saw in the pages of VOGUE and GQ magazine but I knew I can do it. No one was there to coach or help me out. But I knew that can do it and most importantly I wanted to do it.
Without any formal education in fashion editorial photography or a mentor I just began reverse engineering the shoots I look at in the magazine. I would pay attention the lighting, the styling of the models, the position of the poses, the compositions of the subjects (models) are laid on the pages and much more.
Now, years later, i can say that has me taught lessons tat now school would have ever shared with me. It’s allowed showed me how valuable it is to take initiative. Regardless if you had a mentor to help coach you or not. If you want it, get up, make a plan, and make it happen.
In 2019, I began to revisit my passion for filmmaking. Since then Ive have directed and released 9 short films and 1 full length documentary through my small film company, Day One Films (www.dayonefilms.net).
My next short film, Zoom & Enhance will be released in one week (Mid-June). While Im beginning to begin production on my 11 film – UNDERACHIEVER. A short film about a depressed young writer struggles with the pain of living beneath his potential when tough love is no longer enough.
One thing I don’t want to leave this saying on my last day on earth, is, what if…. If I think of idea, I write it down. THen figure out how can i make it happen.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There a lot of spots I love to visit in Los Angeles. First and foremost are its beaches.
No better way to enjoy the California sun then on Venice Beach. Wether you want to get in a good workout, get your skate board on or lay out in the sun, Venice Beach has got you covered. When you’re done for soaking in the sun there are numerous local eating spots that are great. For me, I love. good burger and some fries, so its going to be Venice Beach Bar & kitchen.
Whats a visits to Los Angeles with checking out the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Enjoy seeing the names of Hollywood’s biggest names displayed on one of the worlds most famous streets.
I would finish my journey down the Hollywood Walk of Fame no visits to Loa Angeles would be complete with out visiting the TCL Chinese Theatre. An iconic theartre that has hosted some of the world’s biggest movie premieres. You can event check out the hand and foot prints of Hollywoods biggest actors that has visited the theatre.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would give a shoutout to my father, Gary Silver. He raised my twin brother and I, alone, as a single father. I for sure wasn’t the easiest to deal with as a teenager. As I look back as an older man I realize how much of a great role model and impact he has been in my life.
Many of the qualities I hold dear my father instilled in me indirectly through his actions. His conduct. He never complained about his difficulties. Never took out on how. Lights where always on, Food was always available. And clothes was always on our back.
My father taught me what a man with character looks and tacts like. How a man should conduct oneself in order to earn the respect from ones peers and those in his family.
