We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robin, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
WOW! What a question! What makes me happy is a film or show that’s so well done it inspires me, my husband making me laugh everyday so I can’t take myself too seriously, witnessing pure random acts of kindness and personally being a part of someone’s growth, someone’s glow up, someone’s “a-ha”. These things make me happy because they allow me to see the World in the best light and to experience confidence, bravery, beauty, success at the highest level right before my very eyes. How can that not make you happy?
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The work I do is classified as Wardrobe Stylist and Personal Shopper. But, what I REALLY am is a Confidence Builder. I just use clothes as my conduit. It’s my ultimate tool and I have definitely honed my craft in helping folx in this way.
I am very authentic + unique in the way I work with people. I’ve been called the “sassy bestie from around the block you never knew you had but always wanted!” It’s not about the latest, trendiest thing…it’s about what best fits that person literally and mentally for who they are RIGHT NOW.
I am always excited and honored to help folx on their intimate journey of discovering who they are and and creating a safe space for them to see who they can be as well! I truly get giddy just thinking about how I can inspire and support someone in their glow up.
I got to where I am professionally today with a lot of support, love and belief from the people that mean the most to me that I could do it. And, the confidence, belief and tenacity within in myself that I was called to help folx change their lives for the better while also called to entertain and have the power to sway many in a positive way. And, that’s how I got to a place of helping private clients, becoming an on-air personality, creative directing photo shoots and other events for the community and most recently, launching a charitable fund called “Stylist for the People” that will soon start production as a show as well!
I have to say, there is always ups and downs on the path that is paving the way to your dreams but it hasn’t been hard either. That to me is the perfect indicator that you ARE on the right path I think. For me, it’s more about finding the patience. I want to get there now. Be there now. And, really, when I take a step back…I AM! I just will always be helping and achieving and growing and I think that’s how you stay successful and current. But, please remember, not to forget to enjoy the ride and celebrate your wins!!
What I’ve learned along the way is this: Never stop believing in your ideas and visions. Go with your gut and your heart! Listen and absorb advice, validation and criticism equally. Know where you stand and do not be afraid to fight for it. Always be authentic to who you are no matter how quirky or weird that might be…guaranteed that is what will be a huge factor in your success. Be kind but not disrespected. Stand up for yourself and for others who cannot. Be bold. Be brave. And remember, you’ll be exactly where you are right now if you don’t it…so what’s the harm in trying and see where it will take you? And, last but not least, keep yourself open to the possibilities. That’s the greatest part about living the path of your dreams, sometimes you can’t even dream big enough to know what’s coming. All you can do is be ready when it does! 😉
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmmm…First I would start at Venice Beach because it’s full of quirky shops and iconic characters and landmarks like the “pride” life guard station and muscle beach. It has great memories for me.
Then we would hit some funky shops around the city on Melrose Ave. But, we wouldn’t leave Melrose until we captured some major IG-worthy photos of the alley murals that line the backs of the Melrose shops!
Then we would for sure need to go to Zuma Beach for some epic beautiful beaches and serious sun time and then come back into town and hit the Farmer’s Market at the Grove for some Trejo’s Tacos and some funky tourist shopping and fresh produce of course!
This would be salt and peppered with a stop at the Peterson Auto Museum, The Improv, check what’s playing at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, followed by dinner at the famous El Compadre and then after dinner drinks and karaoke at Barney’s Beanery in West Hollywood where I met my hubby. Then finish out the week by eating breakfast at the old school Jewish deli Greenblat’s, shop small in Silver Lake, check out what’s goin’ on at The Getty and then back to be a part of the live studio audience at The Jimmy Kimmel Show before we go late night at Canter’s. And, best believe there will be celebrity watching the entire time!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well, first off, I have to say my Mom! She, next to my husband, is truly and has ALWAYS been my number one fan! It was just her and me growing up and she never once put me or my ideas or my dreams down. She was always uplifting and encouraging and knew I was capable of anything I put my mind to before I was. She is incredible and I wouldn’t have the confidence, passion or bravery that I possess now if it weren’t for her!
The other Shoutout, would be to my fellow creatives/creators. I have met SO many beautiful, talented and unique folx along my career path that not only showed me different approaches to my creativity but also, different approaches to my business whether they knew it or not. Also, in following these fellow creatives on social media, I have been exposed to organizations, causes, groups, lessons, books, laws, support and just plain old joy. And that, to me, is the true definition of community over competition! And, also, I don’t know how I would have gotten through 2020 like did without them or their feeds.
