Meet Robin Pettus: Esthetician, Holistic Nutritionist, Ayruveda Student

We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Pettus and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robin, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Open communication and trust. I’ve created an environment where I feel open and connected to my clients and likewise, where they feel completely comfortable and trust that whatever I recommend is only going to benefit their skin. I take the time to study my client’s skin and their lifestyle habits, and then I provide a custom regimen to maintain results at home. I check-in to see how my clients are doing post-treatment and offer any support and guidance. I am confident in my esthetic ability and I pride myself in healing and helping people feel confident in their skin.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It all started about 10 years ago, after getting my license and working as an esthetician while finishing up school at Cal State Northridge- eventually receiving a BA in Communication Studies. One of the first day spas I worked at was, “Treats for the Face” in Studio City, CA. I’ll never forget working there because it was where I learned so many valuable lessons on how to run a successful business and it also shaped me into the esthetician that I am today. The owner/esthetician took me under her wing and taught me everything she knew- from hydrafacials to peels to brazilians to spray tans to full-body waxing to eyelash extensions to learning about all of the most popular skincare brands, etc. Working there gave me knowledge, insight, expertise, and inspiration to begin manifesting owning my own spa one day- and I am beyond grateful to have turned my dream into a reality. Aside from being an esthetician, I am a holistic nutritionist and current Ayurveda student. My passion is being able to bridge the gap between medical-grade (western) and Ayurvedic (eastern) skincare ingredients. I use nutrition and Ayurveda in my facials to be able to offer an entire wellness approach to treating the skin holistically. I especially love healing acne and performing mid-depth peels. Since the skin is a direct reflection of what is going on internally, I use face mapping techniques to able to locate where in the body needs more attention. I recommend ingredients to be taken internally for the body and I tackle visible skin concerns topically with the right skincare ingredients. This technique has allowed my clients to achieve clear, vibrant skin, and maintain their results.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ah, there’s so much to see and do in Long Beach. Here are my “Best of Long Beach” recs! BREAKFAST: Ma N’ Pa’s Grocery for veggie breakfast burritos, Ubuntu café for oatmilk lattes/cappuccino’s, brunch at the Long Beach Museum of Art, grab a coffee at Sheldrake and stroll along Belmont Shore, dive in on a short stack from Blackboard Bistro. ACTIVITIES: Paddle board around Bayshore, visit the farmers market at Marine Stadium and have a picnic, yoga on the Bluff, rent a duffy boat and dock it at Ballast Point brewery, shop on 4th street for vintage/retro clothes and antiques, take a day trip to Catalina island, hot yoga at bikram or yoga 108, rent bikes or walk along the beach walk. LUNCH/DINNER: tempting tempeh wrap at the Firkin, Open sesame, spicy thai noodles at Nicks on 2nd, wine and oysters at Saint and second, cockatils at Tantalum, and hot coconut soup and pad thai at Manow.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
YES! I’m shouting out my husband John. He is so supportive of my business and my goals. He also keeps me grounded, reminding me to turn off my laptop and phone so we can just relax and unwind together. Without John, I would burn myself out. And to top it off, he makes the most EPIC Japanese-style meals, complete with all the sides, waiting for me when I get home from work. If that isn’t love, I don’t know what is! I am so grateful for him. He deserves all the love and recognition!
