We had the good fortune of connecting with Rofyah Le and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rofyah, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work life balance can be daunting but because I love to organize and prioritize, I make it work. Before I had my two sons, I was able to put all my time and energy into building my business and working hard to be where I am. I worked long days and gave time to many events/social networking in order to make myself known. I was able to do that with the emotional and financial support of my husband. Before giving birth to my first son, we had decided that I would slow down and really be there to raise him and so I did. I quit my full time job and only focused on building my wedding artist business. It wasn’t too long after, I got pregnant with my second son (who is only 18 months younger than my first) and had to slow down even more so with my business. It was about 6 months into having a toddler and an infant was when I threw my focus back onto my work. I started to do more social media marketing, and took gigs any way I can even if I wasn’t making too much off of them. Now, I can say that I am a stay at home mom while being a girl boss on the weekends as a hair and makeup artist. I prioritize by making time for when I conduct my business and when I spend time with my family. I value both and emphasize what is important to me, which is my personal life. Without that, I wouldn’t love being an artist either. Over time, I had to learn to give a lot and take what I can during that time. I have learn that I can’t always do it all but. if I prioritize, I can do what I love. Balance is a big thing in my life and I wouldn’t be successful without it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a special events hair and makeup artist. Sometimes, I work on photoshoots for different campaigns but I mostly work on weddings and special events. It was not easy when I first started because like any other artist, people have to truly believe and love your work in order to endorse you. I kept working hard and giving all my best to make people love what I have done for them and produce quality work. Once you get enough people to love your style, word of mouth is a powerful thing and the referrals will come in. I have learned that in order for it to be successful for me, I have to put in the work and keep striving to be better at my craft. That entails continuous education, practice, networking and of course, marketing. I have also learned that there are many competitions out there but to never compare yourself to it too much. I use what I see more as a guideline to be a better version in my own artistry. I learned to find my own style and just be fierce at that. I want the world to know that I am passionate about my craft and I will always strive for my best so when you book with me, you know that I am serious about giving you the look that you have always dreamed about for your special day. I will always go out of my way to make you feel beautiful and happy about my services. My brand represents what every client should feel; beautiful, happy and confident. I will always try to provide exactly that.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in a central area that provides a lot of asian eateries-Korean, Vietnamese Chinese, etc. Everyday would entail eating at these cheap and local spots. For example, I would take my best friend to Kaju Tofu in Garden Grove for some authentic tofu soup and to the many Korean BBQ spots like Shik Do Rak or Cham Sut Gol. We can also discover all the wonderful Vietnamese restaurants that are on every street. Brodards in Fountain Valley is one of my favorites and have many options to choose from but don’t forget to order the spring rolls, which they are known for! There are so many boba and dessert places around including one of my favorites such as SomiSomi in Garden Gove. If she’s craving some Taiwanese hot pot, we would go to Boiling Point. Another favorite spot of mine is OC and Lau for all the seafood cravings and Vietnamese hotpot. If she’s looking for fun things to do, we can visit Disney resort or Knotts Berry Farm. For more hipster vibes, we could hangout and eat at the Anaheim Packing District or Steel Craft. We could take a walk or ride bikes and boats at Mile Square Park, which not too far from our neighborhood! Looking to fuel her brain, we can go to the Bowers Museum or Muzeo and my favorite is the Heritage Museum where I often get to see my brides and friends get married at. So many good places to eat and visit in Orange County!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I wouldn’t be where I am at today without the support of my husband. He has truly come through on so many occasions through out our 17 years together to let me pursue what I love in both my personal and professional life. He has not only provided emotional and mental support but he has provided the financial support so I can build my business from the ground up. I’m always able to discuss with him the highs and lows of life and work and he has been the balance I need to control my emotions. I thank the universe for bringing him into my life.
