We had the good fortune of connecting with Ronnie Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ronnie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process of starting my own business was answering this question, “How can I bring meaning to the work I do, on a daily basis?”. I worked for a Fortune 500 company as a manager earning a good living. I traveled the world. Some would say, I had it made. What I discovered was that corporate success did not lead to internal success. I wanted to help people and know that my work mattered. That was the driving force behind wanting to start my own business. It was the hardest but most rewarding decision of my life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Considering that currently one-third of Americans are obese, and if trends continue, we will get to half of all Americans, attention to our health are at a critical level. In this country, we must start to make a change for the better, and change starts with a better representation of what fitness is. Fitness has a stigma of being for the young and that is aesthetically driven. My goal here at DEUCE Athletics, has been to change to focus to quality movement and intentional workouts, and inclusivity, regardless of experience level. Fitness is for everyone. The fitter we are, the healthier life we are going to live. I think we can all get behind that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in the city are The Strand down in Hermosa beach! I would definitely take my best friend there. My favorite coffee shop is Hi-Fi on PCH and Baran’s has the best breakfast burrito in the South Bay. I would absolutely ride bikes up and down the coast and visiting Venice and Santa Monica’s boardwalk would be a must. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be here without the help of my colleagues and the guidance from my family, specifically my mom. One of the books that played a massive role in my life is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. When I had to make the life-decision that got me to where I am at, that book helped me get through and make decisions. As I think about it, the three most important factors behind my success is having a high standard for the quality of my work, having integrity across all my relationships, and caring about our members. Intentionally applying these three principles I believe that these three core principles have led the success we have experienced up this point.
