We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosa Jovel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rosa, what are you inspired by?
As a makeup artist, I draw inspiration from every aspect of my life. From the vibrant colors of my culture to the creativity of my peers, and of course, the transformative power of makeup on my clients’ faces. My passion for this craft is fueled by the endless possibilities it offers, and the impact it can have on someone’s self-esteem and confidence.
I’m not just creating looks – I’m creating confidence. I’m helping my clients feel their best, both inside and out. And that’s what inspires me to keep pushing the boundaries of my craft, to keep learning and growing, and to never stop creating.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been active in the beauty industry for 15 years, starting at a young age. Throughout my journey, I have learned an invaluable lesson: to never take things personally. The industry can be highly competitive and ruthless, with people being mean and critical towards one another. However, I have found that there are also many supportive and motivating individuals who can help you achieve your goals. It’s essential to maintain a strong and level-headed approach, while also being mindful of building and nurturing professional relationships. As I always say, there’s enough success to go around, so it’s important to be kind and respectful towards others in the industry. By doing so, you can create a positive and supportive network that will help you grow and thrive.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ah, the moment my beloved bestie arrives in town, I can’t wait to unleash a whirlwind of nostalgic adventures upon her! 😍 First, we’ll head to the John Waters exhibit, the “Pope of Trash,” where we’ll indulge in a journey through his iconic films, from “Pink Flamingo” to “Cry Baby.” 🎬🎥 Afterward, we’ll fuel up with some delicious tacos from Leo’s taco truck in Glendale and Los Angeles. 🌮👌 Next, we’ll make our way to Hollywood Forever Cemetery for a cute little picnic amidst the historic graves and lush greenery. 🏙️🌺 On the weekend, we’ll take her to a car show where low riders and classic cars are glowing✨The palm trees and sunny weather will only add to the magic of the experience! ☀️🌴 To cap off her visit, we’ll treat her to a punk show and let loose with a little bit of debauchery 🤪🎸, because what’s a visit to LA without a little bit of rebellion? 😜 So, buckle up!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My children are my motivation. They have inspired me to become a better person, and my sister serves as my driving force to accomplish many of the things I set out to do. She consistently provides me with the extra push I need to reach my goals and overcome challenges, and I am grateful for her unwavering support and encouragement.
