Meet Ruben Barraza: Majorwavez Shoe Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruben Barraza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ruben, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always been into fashion and always had retail jobs prior to starting a business I believe that my thought process on starting a business had always been one of my dreams but I knew that I would need practice therefore I climbed the corporate ladder in retail I worked at urban outfitters and guess clothing. Where I started at an entry-level position of stock and a sales associate and moved up all the way to the store manager and a district traveling manager helping on opening up new stores and auditing and checking to make sure everything what’s up to company standard. I stayed in retail for about five -six years and then decided to put my business

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Over the last four years I really focused on learning new message Ant creating different designs with originality and with staying on trend. This was my main focus and were originally set me apart from others I Can’t do anything from hand pay to sewing and even reconstructing shoes from scratch. But my main focus now is teaching and showing how to make custom shoes and how to design Which overall tells my brand and story a lot better. I would say what sets Majorwavezz and Majorwavezz lab apart from anyone else is that we are not afraid to teach and show you the secrets and tips as I know that later on there will be more talent and more artist which will just bring the community of custom sneaker designers or artist closer and grow as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Most of my friends are into arts and crafts or creating and designing so first of all I would start off with having them join a Majorwavez lab class with me to see me and my team in our creative space as well with how much fun it Can be I am originally from San Diego and now Opry out of Los Angeles California so I would definitely have to go check out a couple restaurants I like to hang out near the americana They have great food spots. I would follow up with hanging out impossibly stopping by a few local bars that I have made friends with and heading back to San Diego to a friends business of mine called SD customs were they specialize on making shoes from the ground up it is a more intense four day class but is an awesome experience I need to learn how to make any shoe you want. I would say my life revolves around making shoes and I never get tired of it and most of my friends can say the same thing. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to say the shout out will always continue because I have met so many people that I’ve had a big impact and influence in helping me grow or just believing in me when it comes to my business. My first shout out would have to be my single parent mother she always believed in me and always have my support there was even a time where she help me with shipping and all the operational aspects of the business because she knew that I needed that help. I would also like to shout out all the managers that I encountered in all of my retail experience every single one of them help me transition into a better and stronger leader which overall gave me the confidence to build my own company. I would also have to shout out Nesquik For giving me all the opportunities they have and also building a partnership with me and being able to reach out to the Nesquik team and having them help me and support me special shout out to Javi and Essie to friends and business partners And last but not least would have to be my team I have a few employees that have stuck around for longer than I expected and I appreciate all the hard work and how consistent and motivated they are.
