Meet Ruslan Tuaev | Creative Producer & Founder of Other Objects

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruslan Tuaev and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ruslan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’d say the main thought was to give back. I wanted to give back to the city that gave me so many new opportunities, chances, and connections. Moving to Los Angeles on my own was a big and terrifying decision, but after three years of living here I couldn’t be happier and more thankful for the choice I made. As such, I wanted to create a business for the people with whom I now work, connecting artists and entertainment professionals, especially young ones, with the resources they need to succeed. I see this as an opportunity to try and maintain the entertainment and arts industry in Los Angeles amidst so much of it leaving to other cities, being almost exported out. So many of us are still in this city, and I wanted to make sure that we are still able to use the experience and skill of so many of local artists whilst also paying them fairly and on time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The majority of my time and story comes from my time traveling across the world. Born in Russia, I spent my first few years there before settling in the United Kingdom for almost ten years. It was there that I got my bachelor’s degree, and I tried to pursue law, but it never stuck.
I had one of those epiphany moments of “What did I want to do as a child?” The answer came to me in the form of film. So, I decided that if I was going to do it, I’d do it in the city known as the heart of it all – LA. Moving here in 2022, I attended CalArts, where I got my master’s degree in creative producing, whilst simultaneously pursuing other ventures and opportunities. I organized live music shows, put together gigs, managed film production, and have generally had the best time of my life doing so.
Now that I’ve got over 7 years of experience working in so many different fields, I realised that starting my own company might just be the answer to so many of my professional and personal problems and questions. I get to be my own boss, I get to work with my close friends and allies, and I get to establish a creative narrative of my own whilst also empowering other artists across the US. That’s a core part of my company’s ethos – investing into people first. I want to make sure that those artists across LA, and even across the US, who feel like they’re being left behind can turn to Other Objects to find support and opportunities. I want to use my business to strengthen connections to other bigger companies for the sake of the creatives of this city.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Number one on the list – Jones Hollywood. It’s been around forever, it’s open late, and it’s an LA staple. You meet some insane people, you eat some delicious food and really drunk in good company. The staff is really fun too.
If you’re going out dancing, I’d recommend Akbar Silver Lake for a fun and easy time. The drinks can taste insane, but the music and vibes are great.
Sqirl is great for a nice brunch, but weekends tend to be insanely difficult so try to go on a Tuesday, if you can manage.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give my love and recognition to Jo Siri. A close friend of mine for almost three years, Jo has supported and guided me through adjusting to Los Angeles like no other person has. She is a phenomenal talent and mentor and is as equally fun to be around as she is talented and passionate. Her talent for art direction and creative discovery is unparalleled, and I am thankful to call her my business partner and co-founder of Other Objects, our joint venture in securing LA’s creative future.
