We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Corry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I always associate risk with reward. I mean we’ve all heard that cliche saying at some point in our lives, right?. To be honest, for the sake of being positive, I never really think about risk. Instead, I focus on the reward part and how powerful that can be.

I have a chronic illness called Cystic Fibrosis so, by default, life can be risky, no doubt. But the quality of my life all depends on how I view that risk part. For instance, the smallest infection can easily put me in the hospital for two weeks and if I thought about that every day, it would be easy to think how risky it is to walk out the door each morning and potentially become overwhelmed by that notion. I consciously put that part out of mind at the start of each day and focus my energy on the rewarding aspects of how far I have come with CF, such as the strength and empowerment I have gained over the years from bouncing back from my hospitalizations.

Having a chronic illness like Cystic Fibrosis and the risk that encompasses each day I choose not to focus on because if I did, then I never would have gotten married. I never would have left the comfy bubble of living back east with my secure health insurance and familiar medical team to venture west in hopes of becoming an actor. I never would have seen what I am capable of. I never would have chased my dream. Leaving all that comfort behind sure was a “risk”, but I can confidently say that the rewards have undoubtedly been worth it.
