We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan M. Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan M., what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
One step at a time. At the risk of being melodramatic, making a movie is like climbing Mount Everest. If you keep looking up at the summit and thinking about how far away it is, you’ll think the task is impossible and you’ll give up. But if you just focus on the next step in front of you, you might get there eventually.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have hardly “gotten anywhere” so far in my chosen career, but I am proud to say my first feature film EMMAGEDDON was just released on streaming platforms after a decade-plus of work.
Among other things, I’ve learned that it’s absolutely critical to stand up for your story. Listen to advice, but don’t ever change the core of what you’re doing on someone else’s say-so. Your vision is what matters– not because you’re better or smarter than anyone else, but simply because it’s your vision and your project. Inevitably you’ll make mistakes, but at least make mistakes of your own, not because a self-proclaimed “expert” told you you “had to” do it their way.
I want the world to know that I am dedicated to trying to to tell stories that say something about our life on this planet and who we are as human beings. We all want to make money and need to put food on the table, but my first priority will always be to be honest with audience, and to produce films that are honest and alive, and not just a collage of elements pasted together from other films I’ve seen.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hiking up to Griffith Observatory and Mt. Hollywood. Watts Towers.
Pazzo gelato in Silver Lake (and hope they have ube flavor that day!)
Zuma beach.
Go to the summit of Mt. Baldy (if it’s summer.)
Getty Center.
Have a drink at the Black Cat in Silver Lake.
Track down some wild parrots.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It takes a lot of people to make a movie. So I’d like to thank all of the cast and crew, everyone who donated to crowdfunding, and our outstanding entertainment lawyer Carol Contes. Last but certainly not least, my mom Judith Eble, to whom the film is dedicated.
