We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Rena and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue an artistic career because I wanted to express myself and connect with people through music. I believe music is a universal language, especially in dance music. When I am in my creative space making music, I feel the most aligned. I am very happy when I am making new records. Whatever I feel that day, I try to put into music.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe what makes me so proud of my music is that it is a reflection of me. It incorporates analog sounds from actual instruments. What sets me apart is the style of music I create; I don’t follow trends, but rather make music that I personally enjoy. However, reaching this point was not easy. It took many long nights of networking and trying to break into the industry. I had to overcome a lot of self-doubt and learn to focus on things I could control. There were times when I experienced writer’s block for months and couldn’t seem to create a song.

To overcome these challenges, I had to be consistent and persevere through the struggle. I believe that going through tough experiences can provide valuable insights. I learned to become more present with myself and those around me, as well as to practice patience and avoid rushing things. I found ways to overcome writer’s block by spending time in nature or trying new things.

I want the world to know my story to inspire others that anything is possible. Whatever you want to do in this life, you can achieve it with hard work and dedication.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, I would take them to my favorite Italian restaurant, Bruno’s in Brea. I have probably taken 95% of my friends to that place. Since I live in L.A., I would have to take them downtown to the arts district. Another place I would take them is the beach, and maybe Big Bear. Of course, I would also take them to the studio because why not.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my family for all their love and support they have given me in my musical journey. They are the ones who helped me get into music at a young age, buying me my first guitar and getting me music lessons. I also want to thank my friends who have taken care of me through the highs and lows. The number of good friends that I have is very heartwarming. Without these people in my life, I would not be in the spot that I am in.
