We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryley Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryley, why did you pursue a creative career?
Art has always played a huge roll in my life. I was raised by two creative parents, and when I was younger I always found myself getting lost in something creative whether that be painting, playing dress up, or messing around with my guitar. As I got older I struggled finding my place in this world and I felt like I had to fit society’s mold of going to college then get an office job to be successful. It never felt right to me. I knew that I had to follow my artistic gifts I was given and create something beautiful out of them. Art is supposed to allow humans to look at life in a unique way, and I knew this was something that I am very passionate about. My whole mission during my creative career is to touch peoples lives and inspire them in any positive way I can.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Putting myself out into the world as a natural born introvert was one of the hardest things to do. I was so scared of what others might think, what my friends or family would say, or if people would even like me on the internet. What really helped me grow and kept me pushing through was to understand I was doing this for something bigger than myself. I kept reminding myself of my mission, and that is to help inspire people to practice more self love and feel empowered and connected in their natural skin. It was not an easy road getting to this point, and I fell down a lot of different paths to finally feel in alignment with my purpose. Trusting myself and following a road of love and light really has been my biggest guide through my whole creative journey.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting me in Los Angeles, I would definitely want to show them around Venice Beach in Santa Monica. Not only is Venice one the most worldly famous tourist attractions, it is also a great way to get out in the sun, walk around and experience some of the most eccentric artists. After I would take them North on the PCH to The Palisades where this beautiful meditation temple was built called “The Lake Shrine”. Here there is a beautiful walk around a man made lake filled with huge white swans, and surrounded by stunning vibrant flower gardens. The energy here is calming, peaceful and always leaves people feeling inspired. Next, we would definitely be hungry so we would have to head back into the city and hit my favorite vegan Italian spot called “Pura Vida”. This place has the best Vegan Carbonara that anyone would enjoy, a vegan Kale Cesar salad and a starter and pair it with a nice glass of red wine. During the day, I would recommend trying out Montey’s Burgers in Echo Park, where you can find the best vegan burgers and vegan animal style french fries. For an evening cocktail and sunset watch, I’d recommend Mama Shelters rooftop bar. If we are in the mood for a nice workout to burn off the vacation calories, I love going to my top secret trail the goes right along Runyon Canyon, but very few people know it 😉

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest mentor and motivation would have to be my boyfriend/best friend Sean Nunley. He truly has been my biggest push in helping me feel empowered, confident and trusting my creative process. I truly don’t think I would do any of the work I do today if it wasn’t for his constant encouragement. Anytime I feel lost, or like I want to give up he is there to reassure me that everything will be ok and to keep pushing through. His work ethic and optimistic mentality really inspires me and confirms the fact that anything is possible in life if we set our minds to it.
