Meet Sabrina Cupid | Influencer & Costume Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Cupid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sabrina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had several reasons behind wanting to start my own business. My first thought was to create a legacy. I am taking everything I love to do and I marketing it. People are seeing the real Sabrina I have always been afraid to show. I am a artist, I love to cook, dance and glam up. This is Sabrina. Working for other companies sometimes would leave me feeling stressed, undervalued, overworked, underpaid and unappreciated. With my own business I am responsible for making my own goals. I make my own money and create opportunities. I for the first time have artistic freedom. I am my own boss and I serve my customers. But… Don’t get me wrong. Building a business is not for the weary. With all that freedom comes responsibility.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started out as a masquerader. I started carnival hopping a documenting my experience and sharing my tips and tricks. I became a micro influencer and quickly an ambassador for bands and brands. After a lot of hard work and growing I was offered to design a section. I hesitated because it was out of my comfort zone but it has always been my dream. So I accepted the challenge. It was a lot of late night and early mornings. Scrapped designs but it come out amazing and loved by everyone. I learned the business and the process a little more. I have a long way to go. If you plant a seed and water it, it will grow. I planted this seed in 2014. I stopped watering it until 2020. We all have to start somewhere. The most important thing you must do is start and don’t stop.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles County is a beautiful location. You must visit Bakers Beach, 2nd street for Nick’s on 2nd or Open Sesame. Hike up to the Hollywood sing via The Griffith Park Hollywood Sign Trail. If you have a big appetite stop to dine at Barton Gs. Stop to do a little bargain shopping in the Fashion District in Downtown LA. Last but not least hit some of the shops and sites on Hollywood Blvd. California has wonderful weather.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My dive into the costume design world could not have been done without Makesi Andrews my design mentor, Marlon Smart design mentor, Franklin Sims husband, Vanisha Somauroo collaborating designer, Toniann Chafin my right hand, Kesha Straker partner and friend, Mia Cupid daughter, Shemaiah Sims daughter.
