Meet Sabrina Umberath | Corporate global leader and author at heart

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Umberath and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sabrina, how do you think about risk?
How do you think about risk?
I see risk as a necessary step toward growth and self-discovery. Taking risks means stepping out of your comfort zone to chase something greater—whether it’s an opportunity, a dream, or the chance to grow. For me, risk is not about being reckless but about having the courage to embrace uncertainty and trust in my ability to adapt and learn along the way.
What role has taking risks played in your life and career?
Taking the risk to leave Germany in the middle of the pandemic, without ever having been to the U.S. before, was one of the most pivotal decisions I’ve ever made. I moved with just three suitcases, leaving behind familiarity and stability, but that leap of faith opened doors I never could have imagined. It taught me resilience, adaptability, and the power of believing in myself even when the path ahead wasn’t clear.
In my career, this mindset has translated into seizing opportunities, embracing challenges, and trusting my instincts. That risk allowed me to build a life and career that align with my aspirations, proving that some of the greatest rewards come from the boldest leaps. Each risk I’ve taken has shaped me into someone who thrives in uncertainty and finds strength in the unknown.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career journey has been defined by a global perspective and a commitment to purpose-driven work. In my role as a global client lead for one of the world’s leading tech companies, I bridge diverse cultures and markets, crafting marketing strategies that deliver results while driving meaningful impact. What sets me apart is my unique way of thinking and approach to life, rooted in my personal values. I am deeply proud of being opinionated, challenging societal norms, and staying true to my purpose in everything I do.
My mission goes beyond client success—I aim to use my position to foster good growth not just for the brands I work with, but for society at large. I believe that businesses can thrive while also driving positive change, and I’m committed to finding the balance between innovation, creativity, and social responsibility.
The journey hasn’t been easy. In Germany, I often felt like an outsider because my approach—thinking outside the box—didn’t fit traditional expectations. It was frustrating at times, but it taught me resilience. Moving to the U.S. was a turning point; here, thinking differently and challenging the status quo is celebrated. This shift has allowed me to thrive professionally and embrace the qualities that once felt like obstacles.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that staying authentic to who you are is the key to success. My story is a testament to the power of taking risks, trusting your values, and finding an environment that nurtures individuality. My goal is to inspire others to do the same—to push boundaries, challenge norms, and create work that matters.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When friends or family from Germany visit Los Angeles, I always make it a point to show them the local gems that give the city its unique charm. I’m a huge fan of supporting local businesses and discovering hidden spots that showcase the diversity and creativity of LA. Here’s a little itinerary for a week-long adventure:
Day 1: Coffee & Beach Vibes
We’d start the week with coffee at Maru Coffee in the Arts District, known for its minimalist aesthetic and incredible brews. Then, we’d head to Malibu for a relaxing beach day, stopping at Broad Street Oyster Co. for the best lobster rolls and a glass of wine overlooking the ocean.
Day 2: Arts & Culture
We’d explore the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and the nearby Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. For lunch, we’d hit République, a local favorite for its pastries and French-inspired dishes. Dinner would be at Bestia, an industrial-chic spot serving phenomenal Italian food in the Arts District.
Day 3: Local Shopping & Farmers Markets
We’d spend the day wandering through Silver Lake, stopping by Micheltorena Stairs. Shopping at Mohawk General Store is a must for curated fashion and home goods. We’d end the day at the Hollywood Farmers Market, tasting local produce and grabbing dinner from one of the amazing food trucks.
Day 4: Hiking & Casual Eats
A morning hike at Griffith Park with a stop at the observatory for iconic views would be perfect. After working up an appetite, we’d grab lunch at HomeState for the best breakfast tacos in LA. For dinner, we’d go casual with pizza at Pizzana, where the dough is just heavenly.
Day 5: Hidden Gems
We’d spend the day exploring lesser-known spots like Heritage Square Museum, a collection of preserved Victorian homes. Coffee and pastries from Go Get Em Tiger would keep us energized. For dinner, I’d take them to Tsubaki, a cozy izakaya-style restaurant in Echo Park.
Day 6: Beach Towns
We’d spend a day in Venice Beach, strolling along Abbot Kinney Boulevard for boutique shopping and stopping at Gjelina for a chic Californian dining experience.
Day 7: Relaxation & Sunset Views
We’d wrap up the week with a visit to El Matador Beach, a secluded gem perfect for relaxation and stunning sunset views. Dinner would be at Elephante, a rooftop spot in Santa Monica with coastal vibes and delicious food.
LA is full of interesting people and places, and the best part is that there’s always something new to discover. From small coffee shops like Destroyer in Culver City to hidden shopping spots like General Store in Venice, every corner of the city has a story waiting to be told. Supporting these local businesses makes every visit a unique and memorable experience!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My journey wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support, mentorship, and encouragement I’ve received along the way. First, I want to thank my sponsor, who took a leap of faith and believed in me even when I doubted myself. Their guidance and trust laid the foundation for many of the opportunities I’ve embraced.
I’m also deeply grateful to my mentors, who’ve been my compass during pivotal moments. Their wisdom and honest feedback gave me the clarity and courage to navigate challenges. Friends who became my chosen family have been my rock, especially during my move from Germany to the U.S.. They reminded me that I wasn’t alone, even when I was building a new life from scratch.
Finally, this journey wouldn’t have been the same without my colleagues and the brilliant minds I’ve had the privilege to collaborate with. Their belief in my abilities pushed me to new heights, and their camaraderie made every step worthwhile. My story is not just mine—it’s a tapestry of everyone who shared their light with me, and I carry their impact with gratitude every day.
