We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Bertucci and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sam, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Budgeting. A lot of people think when you’re a makeup artist that you show up and apply make up, get payed, and go home. Going into this career people don’t realize you have to budget for the cost of the products, your time on each makeup look, and your pricing when doing a project.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Since being in LA for two years, I can say I’ve been a part of so many amazing projects. Last time you guys did an interview with me I was just starting out and really busting my butt on so many projects. I was kind of like a deer in the heads lights scenario with it all. I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is that there’s a lot of different view’s of what everyone wants a certain character or person to look like. Sometimes you have to tell yourself that it may not be what you would do but that doesn’t mean its not right for the character in the moment. I’ve learned to let go of always trying to obtain perfection in my eyes when I’ve already hit perfection with the directors and producers. So to see my work I’ve done for a campaign or a film, it really does make all the hard work behind the camera worth it. I literally can’t wait to see where I’ll be next year or a few years down the road.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh 100% The Original Farmers Market. I know kind of boring but the fresh flowers they have there are amazing. Also there’s this one booth that has homemade pickles that also come in different flavors that I’m super obsessed with.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Joe Bertucci has always been by myside. He’s the one who has helped me update my resume or update my website. I am truly grateful for him and everything he has done for me.
