We had the good fortune of connecting with LaTaicha Norris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaTaicha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started Thick Chicks Boutique my thought process was how can I dress thicker women or women that look like me, classy, sexy, and make them feel great, with affordable fashion all at the same time. I was getting tired seeing Thick Chicks not having clothes on or the clothes were too small for them and the women who just needed a little guidance with how to dress their body type. I wanted to help boost confidence.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Thick Chicks Boutique is a Plus Size boutique designed to help thicker women look fabulous without showing it all. I rather my Queens walk around with their heads up with all the confidence in the world.

What sets me apart is I want to be able to talk with the ladies, sit down and see what their thought process is and what makes them comfortable. How can I help build confidence with Thick Chicks Clothing.

What I’m most proud of is, I hung in there with this Business. I never gave up. Its been 4 years now and I started with hopes and dreams that I can make this work and make this my full time job.

Business wise, I had to Network, Read and take it day by day. It was pretty much Trial & Error for me. I didn’t go to school for business so I just read and learned on my own. Its still a work in progress but I definitely have some good people on my team, And no it wasn’t easy. There’s nobody out here with one on one lesson on how to run a Plus Size Boutique. There’s alot of competition and you had to work on gaining trust from the Public.

I over came my challenges by doing the work, talking with ladies, finding vendors that were loyal, modeling for other vendors and learning how they do things. I was finding out ways t structure my business.

Lesson learned is to believe in yourself, and don’t give up. I never knew that other Plus Size women admire me for what I was trying to do, That in itself keeps me going.

I want the world to know that I’m here and willing to go hard to make the ladies feel their best, be their best, and look fabulous doing it. Its not easy being a Thick Chick. So If I can relieve some of their stress then lets get it done.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I’m a winery type of chick. I would do Napa if we had time, or I can do Temecula. As far as food, I love the Penthouse in Venice. The food is great, and the ambiance is amazing. I would also do San Diego they have a great night life. I’ve been a Palm Springs chick lately. Great food and great night life as well. But its Hotttt!!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out Billy Edwards. He’s the reason I started the Thick Chicks. He seen something in me that I didn’t think I had in me. I just figured I knew how to dress myself like a lady, but he seen I can help other women as well.
