We had the good fortune of connecting with sam pocker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi sam, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Start copying what you love. Copy copy copy copy. At the end of the copy you will find your self.” – Yohji Yamamoto

I like it because it’s a reminder that we can learn a lot by copying the things we love. When we copy something, we’re not just copying the superficial details. We’re also copying the underlying principles and techniques. This can help us to develop our own unique style and voice.

I also like the idea that copying can be a way of finding ourselves. When we copy something, we’re essentially trying to understand it on a deeper level. This can help us to discover what we really value and what we’re passionate about.

I think this quote is especially relevant for creative people. When we’re trying to create something new, it can be helpful to start by copying something that we already love. This can give us a foundation to build on and help us to develop our own unique vision.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

Sure, I can make it a little more personal.

I grew up in a very consumerist society, and I was always surrounded by messages that told me that I needed to buy more things to be happy. I felt a lot of pressure to fit in and to keep up with the Joneses. This led to a lot of isolation and rejection, as I felt like I could never be good enough.

I turned to food for comfort, and I developed an unhealthy relationship with fast food. I used food to numb my emotions and to cope with my feelings of isolation and rejection. This led to health problems, and I eventually realized that I needed to make a change.

I started to focus on my art as a way to heal myself. I found that art was a way for me to express my emotions and to connect with others on a deeper level. It helped me to feel less alone and more accepted.

I also started to learn about consumerism and its impact on society. I realized that consumerism is a form of control, and that it can lead to isolation, rejection, and abandonment. I decided to use my art to challenge consumerism and to promote a more sustainable and equitable way of life.

I am still on my journey, but I am grateful for the progress I have made. I am no longer afraid to be myself, and I am no longer afraid to be alone. I am committed to using my art to make a difference in the world, and I believe that art can be a powerful tool for social change.

Here are some specific examples of how my personal experiences have influenced my art:

I have created a series of posters that explore the relationship between consumerism and isolation. These paintings depict people who are surrounded by material possessions, but who are still feeling lonely and disconnected.

I have written an opera about a young woman who struggles with an unhealthy relationship with food. This story explores the ways in which food can be used to cope with emotional pain.

I have created a music video that challenges the idea that happiness can be bought. This video shows people who are chasing after material possessions, but who are still not happy.

I hope this gives you a better understanding of my art and my personal experiences.
