We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Aguilar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process for starting my own business was inspired by my family and being raised in a household of hard workers. Starting an art business is terrifying because the service is undefinable. Sure, one can create a painting, a mural, etc. However, the opportunities with art are never-ending. The best way for me move my business forward is continuing to learn and meet people who enjoy looking at my art.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Community is the most important thing in my career. Growing up in a large family set the tone early on and really helped me make it come this far! Not only do I enjoy painting pretty pictures, but I love trying to understand my customers and find out what inspires them. My job is to understand the picture they’ve painted in their mind and bring it to life!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of the best places in the city is Griffith Park. It’s the perfect place to go for an early morning hike. One can take a coffee or water in a bottle and walk with nature while listening to the birds chirping. After finishing a hike at around 11 AM I would take my best friend to the Guatemalteca Bakery Restaurant for lunch. I would recommend enchiladas, tamales, or their Chile Rellenos! It’s amazing!
Then we would go to downtown LA to walk around little Tokyo. If we’re lucky enough to be in downtown on the first Thursday of the month, then we would definitely go to the Downtown LA artwork! We would walk around, look at art, and stop by the last bookstore. We would then end the night at a restaurant called Jaraguas on Beverly. They have GREAT pupusas! A few other restaurants I would recommend are Langers on Alvarado St, Moon BBQ2 on Western, and Met him at a bar on La Brea!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Shoutout goes to my little brother (Ethan Aguilar) who is one of my favorite people to be around! Ethan inspires me everyday to do better than yesterday. I would also like to give a shoutout to my parents, Gayle Marroquin and Robert Aguilar! They are the hardest working people I know and have supported me through my journey as an artist! Lastly, I would like to give a shoutout to my boyfriend Austin Conrad! He has helped me through the ups and downs of my business and my life. He truly is one of a kind.
