We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Scully and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Over time, my approach to work-life balance has evolved from simply managing my time to truly prioritizing what matters. In the early years of running my business, I was fully immersed—working long hours, always chasing the next contract, and wearing multiple hats. While that hustle built the foundation of my success, I’ve learned that true balance isn’t about working less—it’s about working smarter.
Now, I view balance as an ongoing rhythm rather than a rigid structure. Some seasons demand more focus on business growth, while others allow personal time and reflection. As an entrepreneur and drone pilot, I’ve found that integrating my passions—technology, aviation, and mentorship—into my work has created a more fulfilling balance.
I also believe in setting boundaries and making time for what fuels me. Whether stepping away to mentor young drone pilots, enjoying a quiet moment outdoors, or simply being present with family, these moments recharge me. Balance isn’t about perfection; it’s about aligning my energy with what brings me purpose.
Ultimately, success isn’t just about the contracts I win—it’s about my impact and the life I create.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My Business Journey: Resilience, Innovation, and Impact
Sam Scully Staffing started in 2008 as a technology staffing firm built on the foundation of connecting companies with top talent while creating opportunities for underrepresented professionals. Over time, I expanded my business beyond staffing, launching Sam & Drones—a division dedicated to drone consultancy, training, and workforce development in Aviation, Construction, Engineering, and Transportation.
What sets my business apart is the fusion of technology, innovation, and inclusion. I don’t just provide staffing or drone services—I create pathways for people to succeed in these industries. As a Disabled Veteran, Minority, and Women-Owned Business, I understand firsthand the importance of breaking barriers and ensuring others can access careers in emerging fields.
Getting to where I am today was anything but easy. The transition from traditional IT staffing to drone consultancy came with challenges—learning a new industry, earning my FAA certification in 2021, and proving the value of drones in sectors that were starting to adopt the technology. There were moments of uncertainty, but I overcame them by staying committed to education, networking, and perseverance.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that adaptability is key. Technology is always evolving, and so are business opportunities. I’ve embraced change, continually upskilling and seeking partnerships that align with my mission. I also learned that building strong relationships is just as important as expertise. The mentors, colleagues, and organizations that have supported me have played a vital role in my success.
What I want the world to know about my brand and my story is that I’m here to make an impact. Whether it’s helping companies find the right talent, training future drone pilots, or consulting on innovative drone applications, my mission is to bridge gaps, create opportunities, and push industries forward. My journey proves that anything is possible with resilience, vision, and a willingness to grow.
I’m excited for what’s ahead—continuing to elevate my business, advocating for diversity in technology and aviation, and helping more people take flight in their careers—literally and figuratively!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Success is never a solo journey. I am incredibly grateful for the support, mentorship, and encouragement shaping my path. First and foremost, I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to my fellow veterans—especially those in the drone and technology industries—who have continuously inspired and supported me. The veteran community has been instrumental in my growth, reminding me of the power of resilience, leadership, and service.
I also want to recognize Women and Drones. This incredible organization has championed diversity and inclusion in the UAS industry. Their commitment to empowering women in aviation has provided me opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to the field.
Additionally, I am thankful for mentors and colleagues in the technology and staffing industries who have shared their wisdom, offered guidance, and pushed me to elevate my business. The partnerships I’ve built with organizations like Global Air Academy and Civil Air Patrol and STEM education programs like U.S. Drone Soccer have allowed me to give back while continuously learning.
Lastly, I want to thank my family, friends, and the next generation of drone pilots who remind me why I do this work. Their support fuels my passion and motivates me to break technological and aviation barriers.
Success is about the people who lift us along the way, and I am grateful for every hand that has helped shape my journey.
