We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Siu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came from a family of entrepreneurs. At a very young age, I would assist in all of my family’s businesses; especially my aunts’ jewelry manufacturing company. I knew then, I would run a business one day. But the concept of what I would be selling did not come into fruition until I attended FIT’s jewelry design program. In one of my final projects, I created the prototype for my signature piece: a reversible necklace with exceptional silversmithing, created from wax carving. It was not until a few years later that I would get inspired to create a line, by falling in love and leaving my post as a merchandiser. Samantha Siu New York was created in 2016 to create exquisite, well made jewelry with the purpose to do good.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I created a one of a kind jewelry line with intentions of spreading good throughout developing countries. Each necklace in the collection tells a story of a time and place where “A Love Affair” takes place .Our one of a kind necklaces are reversible and accentuates both the front and the back. Our intricate clasps are created from hand carved wax (which is now deemed a lost art form in the jewelry world). 10% of the net profit from all of our products goes towards education enhancement, animal conservation, and health improvements. We are a jewelry company with the purpose for good. I got where I am today through my family’s work ethic, an unwavering support base, faith, and determination. If I don’t believe in myself, why should others believe in my business? One of my favorite quote is from my Aunt Amy. She says, “You will never understand the true meaning of success unless you exceed your limitations.” Thus, I reach for the stars with global impact.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Though I have been to L.A., my base is in New York City. I haven’t explored Los Angeles to its core. But I’m looking forward to do so once I start traveling again.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
You know the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child.”? Well, it also takes a village to create a successful (wo)man and brand. If it wasn’t for my Christian journey, I would not have the faith and purpose for what I do. If it weren’t for my entrepreneurial family, I would not have the interest to lead. If it weren’t for my aunts, I would not have the skill sets to create my line. If it weren’t for my outstandingly wise mentors, I would not know how to navigate the field. If it were not for Oprah, I would not be certain of what I am to do: I attended her Live the Life You Want tour and it forever changed the trajectory of my career.
