We had the good fortune of connecting with Samira Tené and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samira, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
You will know whether to keep going when you realize your skills come easy to you. Even when obstacles are created, you are able to maintain poise and continue on your path. Sometimes, we may have to take a detour to achieve our goals, but overall, everything ends up working out the way it needs to because preparation meets opportunity.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a model, creative artist, and self-healer, the purpose of my work is to influence others to more than one perspective. Each one of us has the opportunity to transform through different phases of our lives which assist with who we become throughout our journey.
What sets me apart from others is unapologetically being myself. There are no gray areas when it comes to me. I know what I desire from life and take each opportunity as a learning experience. Therefore, I am excited about living out the life I have always envisioned since a teenager, while simultaneously feeling fulfilled in all areas of my life.
I got where I am today professionally because of my grandfather, Louis A. Foy, Sr. who instilled wisdom in me at an early age. He helped me understand what it meant to remain dedicated to myself and take chances on those who take chances on me. It was not always easy getting to where I am now, but I overcame the challenges from prayer, my family’s / soul tribe’s encouragement, and most importantly, the unwavering belief in my dreams.
The lessons that I have learned along the way: no reaction is a reaction, have discernment with who you share information with, disappointment creates an infinite amount of strength, and continue to be yourself despite what others want to assume about you, including your decisions.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever, we would first visit Long Beach. That is the first city I was raised. First, I would show them the house I was brought up in, then go to Downtown Long Beach to rent a bike at Shoreline Village and go on the bike trail along the beach. Afterwards, we would grab something at Tequila Jack’s Restaurant & Cantina and to walk off our food, we would go shopping at the Pike Outlets.
Day 2, we would go to (abeautifullife) Jamaican Kitchen in DTLA, get social media content at LACMA, and later on that night go to the rooftop at Spire 73.
Day 3, we would go to the Walk of Fame in Hollywood and sight see. Then for lunch we would go to the W Hotel and chill poolside. At night, we would eat at Miceli’s and go to Te’Kila and Revel Lounge to enjoy the rest of the night.
Day 4, We would go to Santa Monica Pier to enjoy the beach and sight see. Then go to Santa Monica Place to grab some food and go shopping. Later on that night, we would go to Perch in DTLA for dinner and go to LA Live afterwards.
Day 5, We would relax for majority of the day and grab some food at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in Hollywood. Later on that night, we would go to Playhouse Hollywood.
Day 6, We would go back to Perch, but this time it would be for brunch. Then go to the LA Love Day Party Experience.
Day 7: We would recover and grab some food at Aroma Di Roma in Long Beach before my best friend left for the airport.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my grandfather who played a huge influence in my life. Also, I would like to dedicate my shoutout to those who consistently make me feel seen, loved, and supported throughout my journey. Even if communication is sporadic due to our busy lives, we leave off where we started and always celebrate our growth.
