We had the good fortune of connecting with Samuele Zanni and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samuele, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I think it all started since my experiences growing up. Sport has been a very big part of my life from a very young age. It was all I did pretty much and all I wanted to do. My life was center around my soccer trainings and competitions. In my twenties due to certain circumstances I decided to give priority to university studies and other experiences that took me abroad traveling around the globe. For the first time in my life I found myself without the routine that team sport always gave me and I felt pretty lost. It was then that I decided to go back and to learn more about the principles of physical conditioning. Before, I never considered becoming a coach, I just always wanted to be the athlete.
But after seeing the impact of healthy habits on the quality of my life, I decided I wanted to bring my experience to others, I realized that I could help others feel better, mentally and physically, through fitness. And to get my qualification as a personal trainer was the first step to take.
SAMFIT Club is the results of many experiences I had in the fitness industry, from personal training to other group projects.
SAMFIT it’s what I always had as a kid – I was a part of a team, I had mates supporting me and I had a structure. Soccer was my life. As an adult, I lost that. I was wanting the same kind of community and saw that others were also feeling the same hole in their lives. So I created SAMFIT Club for people to connect through sport, to build a fun work out structure in their lives, and to support each other in reaching their goals. We’re a community that cares for one another.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think life has been a good teacher overall., I had a lot of different professional experiences in many different fields and in many different countries. From luxury retail to hospitality and events, from a communication degree and digital marketing job to modeling and acting in tvcs, and then the fitness industry, collecting experience as trainer first, then manager and business partner of other projects till walking on my own shoes. It hasn’t been a linear path and not hassle-free for sure, but somehow everything taught me something that has been useful in the development of SAMFIT. This melting pot of experiences, in countries and cultures so different from my own and learning different languages, allowed me to develop some soft skill along the way that I guess set me somehow apart from the others. Through SAMFIT I can proudly say that a lot of people changed for good, not only improving their fitness and overall health thanks to a better lifestyle, but they made real friendship and created bounds that will last. It’s exiting to connect likeminded people through our activities.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I think Barcelona is playground for anyone regardless his hobbies or interests, it has so much to offer that anyone can find something they’d love here. I might not be the best one to show the famous night life in town as it’s not my thing, but I would go for other things that are more attractive to me. I would start with a good walk along the beach from the port del Forum till the W hotel, with a quick deviation to the Parc Diagonal Mar, then a good paella at the Barceloneta would be a nice welcoming and regenerating recompense for the walk. Some beach time for day one would work well, ideally Stand Up Paddle would be a great start. More walking around for day two to visit the Gothic neighborhood and lunch at Honest Green would be a must. The famous Rambla and a walk at the Raval in the afternoon to appreciate the contrast between areas in the city, mexican dinner at El Pachuco, Raval.
Day 3, breakfast at La Cala Barceloneta, cozy place with yummy sandwiches, hidden from the main touristic road that takes to the main beach of the city, this is the place where we go every Saturday after SAMFIT outdoor session at the beach. Then bicycle tour around the Born, Park de la Ciudadela, and finally Sagrada Familia, masterpiece and must visit in Barcelona. Lunch at Hula Poke, best poke in town and more kms by bicycles till Montjuic for wonderful views over the city, then back to the Barceloneta for tapas at Cervecería Vaso de Oro and Guzzo Club to hang out at night in a popular expats area. Day 4, worth a walk in Passeig de Gracia, and the visit of Casa Batlló. Lunch at El Nacional and then Gracia neighborhood till Casa Vicens, then dinner at Antúnez.
Day 5 some nature time, excursion to la Carretera de las Aguas, ideally a jog here with a stunning view of the city, and a visit to Tibidabo, the higher mountain and the best view of Barcelona. Lunch with a view at Mirablau, Parc Guell in the afternoon and dinner in the way out from the park to my favourite Sirian place in town, Ugarit.
Day 6 must be an escape by car to Costa Brava, to enjoy a stunning sea in some wild cala, Cala Figuera
could be the place. Dinner by the beach in our way back to the chiringuito L’Estupendu at La Badalona.
Last day would be for some cultural event, maybe a live concert in the stunning Palau de la musica, and I would close the evening with sailing trip at sunset around the coast.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely there are people I crossed my path with that had a big influence on my personal development and affected the decisions I took in my life and contributed to what it turned to be SAMFIT Club. Starting from my best friend, actor, model, trainer, mental coach Lorenzo Pozzan, for being always supportive and helping me seeing the positive sides of things. To my older mentor Balder Moreno, which I met in Australia and introduced me to a conscious healthier life style. To my family for the support in difficult times, and to my girlfriend Maria Kostrova for being next to me from the very beginning and for being so essential in any aspect of the development of SAMFIT.
