We had the good fortune of connecting with Samvel Krajian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samvel, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since I was a child I had a passion for inventing fictional characters, and then imposing narratives and circumstances that my little brain conjured at the time, onto them. These stories I created were very imaginative and oftentimes beyond the scope of reality. I believe that there are those of us who have an urgent need to share the stories and ideas that we believe are important. Whether it is through self reflection, fictitious narration, or historical reference, I enjoy more than anything embedding stories into my music, allowing instruments and sounds to act as characters, and as such, undergo development, and be in continuous interaction with one another. To allow a listener the chance to escape their reality for a moment, and follow a story that is beyond the fringes of the real world, is my greatest joy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently very excited to be working on my debut EP, which will be released later this year! I am approaching this work as a way to broadcast my thoughts and experiences during the last few years of creative growth, and as a way to showcase my artistic language. The music included in this work will look to the future for inspiration, and will be largely based in the various electronica subgenres. This line of music will also kick off the beginning of my career as a performing artist! I intend to perform music from this EP as well as other music written specifically for the stage later this year! I have many things awaiting in the pipeline that are in some way another tied to this new release, and I cannot wait to share with LA and the world!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Thinking about taking a friend out in LA, I would organize it by the different parts of the day that we would be able to hang out. I am also assuming that the friend visiting is also a fellow musician!

In the morning, I would suggest getting brunch around my favorite neighborhood, Los Feliz! I love going to Cafe Los Feliz and Mustard Seed Cafe in the area, they always hit the spot for this sort of thing.

In the afternoon I am always in the mood for a light snack and a picnic – possibly grabbing something light from Falafel Arax, alongside a few Trader Joe’s snacks and going to picnic at Griffith or Elysian park to enjoy the sun!

And finally at nighttime, it would be a shame not to explore the ramen and pho restaurants around LA. Both Tatsunoya Ramen in Pasadena, and Blossom in Atwater Village are favorites of mine!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my primary collaborators in the past previous months, Erika Poh and Sebastian Sack for their inspiring and amazing work. Working with them has been an absolutely positive and transformative time for me. I also want to shoutout my mentor Moor Mother, for her endless support of my artistry, and helping me push to be my absolute best self.
