We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sandra, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
There are so many lessons that I have learned in my business/career. But the one the stands out the most to me amongst so many is just treating people with kindness/attention/compassion and understanding.
Whether Im communicating with a potential client, my dancers or vendors…treating people with respect, attention and understanding goes along way!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My passion for dance has been immersed in me since I can remember. Although I grew up poor, my mother always encouraged us to pursue our interests in the arts because she herself was a wonderful artist. I remember as a kid (when there was no social media), I would watch concerts/MTV music videos on TV and would zone myself in on the backup dancers and try to repeat their every movement. At family parties, I would be the first one on the dance floor, and the last one to be pulled off of the dance floor. I have always loved expressing myself through movement and color. Once I got to high school, I realized I loved dancing and wanted to make it part of my career. So, in college, I decided to go full out and major in Theatre Arts and Dance/Management and took as many dance classes as I could just to make up for training late in age. This drive and yearn to catch up is what started my business…Samba2Love Dance Entertainment.
My journey hasn’t been easy. My company wasn’t made overnight and I’m still working on developing it, as well as myself. But I feel that if you follow your passion, there’s no way you can possibly fail. Because when something comes from the heart, it always prevails. Being in the entertainment dance industry in Los Angeles isn’t easy, and it has many challenges. But my advice to young women starting out is to not be afraid of what others think, be fearless, go after what you believe in, don’t be afraid to ask questions, be persistent and of course, knowledge is power, keep evolving yourself, physically, spiritually and mentally.
I started “Samba2Love Dance Entertainment” as a passion for dancing and fascination with color & costumes. “Samba2Love” specializes in Latin dancing, Brazilian Samba being our most requested dance style. But we also perform to a variety of other dance styles to cater to all of our client’s special events needs.
What makes Samba2Love so different from all other dance companies is that I strive my best to not only give my clients full attention and care to each of their events (as every event is unique and different) but also that we leave them/their guests with happy memories that will last a lifetime. My team and I love what we do and when we get on that dance floor we give our 1,000 percent (and more) whether we are having a good or bad day.
There are so many things that’ I’m proud of from how far I’ve come to how much me and my company have grown (and continues to grow) to knowing that my clients are always left happy and satisfied with our work and continue to seek our dance entertainment services even after their events have been over. I’ve had clients call me every year for all of their families celebrations (of every few years they’ll reach out to me to bring entertainment), and it brings me so much joy to know they think of us and trust us to continue making they’re events memorable and special.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A special thank you to my family and friends who have supported me wholehearted in my company’s journey!
