We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Jaimen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ben, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The inspiration for what eventually became ZigZag sparked from a video that I produced for a song called “7 Billion People”. My entire professional life I’ve been in the music and entertainment industry, often working with charity organizations, specifically those dealing with children. So for the “7 Billion People” project we had the idea to create a virtual kids choir, asking kids from all over the world to submit a 5 second video snippet of them doing the 7 Billion People dance. The result was beautiful, but the work to make that video happen was A LOT! From collecting all the clips, to engaging a videographer that would mix all of them into one final mashup, and so on. That’s when the idea was born – “Hey, let’s create an app where users can invite each other and make videos together”. Of course the idea developed into something way bigger, you can not only create music videos together, but basically any form of video. But that seed spark of doing something TOGETHER is still the main driver of our app.

What should our readers know about your business?
Our mission with ZigZag is louder than life and we are determined to offer a new way of collaborating and creating together on social media – through video. This sense of togetherness is the core value of our company, which is also reflected by our logo – a zebra. Zebras represent community! We all know that each zebra is unique, as they all have a unique set of stripes. Yet when zebras come together, this is when they are the strongest! We feel the same about creators. Creativity is something so unique and individual, yet when many creators come together they can often create something that is only possible as a group. Like an orchestra! Now I’m sure many will agree that this sounds like a beautiful vision. And it is! But like with any other (successful) business, there is so much more required to turn it into something really great! Commitment, hard work, a never-giving-up mentality, super strong team work… just to name a few. And although we still have a long way to go, I am very proud of the goals we already achieved, above all that we were able to recruit first users and dedicated brand ambassadors. Every new user counts, and it’s part of our mission to welcome every single one with open arms!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Now that’s a tough question in times of Covid! So let’s do this: pre Corona, to show someone the best time ever, I would have taken them to one of my favorite restaurants (Rosaline, Fig at the Fairmont, Via Veneto or MTN in Venice), afterwards to the best ice cream in town – Salt & Straw (also Venice) and then to the best bar in town – Library Bar at the Roosevelt! The other days I would have done some of the usual things like going to the beach, going for a hike, maybe doing the Warner Brothers Studios Tour or driving to Disneyland (haha, never too old for that). Now with Covid… there isn’t so much to offer, except for daily culinary surprises in my home kitchen. I got to say, with the whole lockdown etc. came my absolute fascination for cooking! I’m a little obsessed with it now. Just a little 😉 Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is a shoutout to all of our ambassadors and early users! You guys are the foundation of our community and ZigZag Fam! We are so appreciative of your support, creativity, enthusiasm and feedback. Your are keeping us motivated every day and inspired to not just make the app a better platform, but to constantly improve as business leaders and as a team. THANK YOU FAM!
